Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Chief AKBP Rosef Efendi, S.I.K., M.H., CPHR., through Traffic Police Chief AKP Yustina, S.H., M.H., explained that the accident began when a Hino truck with registration number BK 8420 FE was traveling from Medan toward Bagan Batu.
According to police, the driver allegedly moved too far to the right and crossed the road markings. At the same time, a Hino truck with registration number B 9056 VO was approaching from the opposite direction. The truck was driven by 59-year-old Agus Salim, with Rizqi as a passenger."The Hino truck BK 8420 FE moved too far to the right and crossed the road markings. It then collided with the oncoming Hino truck B 9056 VO," AKP Yustina explained.
Following the collision, the Hino truck B 9056 VO came to a stop on the roadway. The position of the vehicle after the first collision subsequently led to another crash.Traveling from Bagan Batu toward Medan, a Hino truck with registration number B 9159 UZ approached the scene. The vehicle was driven by 42-year-old Irawan. The driver was unable to avoid the Hino truck B 9056 VO, which was stopped in his lane.
The Hino truck B 9159 UZ subsequently crashed into the rear of the Hino truck B 9056 VO. Within a short period, three heavy vehicles had become involved in a chain-reaction crash.Police confirmed that there were no fatalities or injuries in the accident.
"Fortunately, there were no fatalities or injuries in this incident. However, the vehicles involved were damaged. The material losses are estimated at around Rp100 million," AKP Yustina said.
Following the accident, police found that the driver of the Hino truck BK 8420 FE had already left the scene. Officers are continuing their investigation to determine the driver's identity and whereabouts.
Agus Salim and Irawan, along with the vehicles they were driving, were secured by officers. The two drivers and the vehicles were subsequently made available for further investigation and examination.Traffic police officers from the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police also immediately conducted an examination of the accident scene. During the process, officers secured evidence, documented the condition of the vehicles and questioned several witnesses who had observed the incident.
The measures at the scene also included traffic management. The effort was aimed at preventing lengthy vehicle queues and avoiding possible secondary accidents. The accident occurred on a section of Jalinsum that carries heavy traffic, particularly trucks and other transport vehicles traveling between North Sumatra and Riau. Therefore, the presence of police officers during the vehicle removal and investigation process was considered important.
After officers completed their operations, traffic was able to return to normal. Police continued to deploy personnel around the accident scene to ensure a safe and controlled flow of traffic.
AKP Yustina said traffic police officers remained deployed at the accident scene to prevent another buildup of traffic.
"Traffic is currently running smoothly and under control. Traffic police personnel remain at the location to ensure security and prevent another buildup of traffic if congestion occurs again," she said. The accident in the Asam Jawa area once again highlights the risks along Jalinsum, particularly for heavy vehicles with large dimensions and substantial weight. Failure to maintain the proper lane, adjust speed, remain focused or maintain a safe following distance can quickly result in a multi-vehicle accident.
Driving in the early morning hours also requires extra attention from motorists. Visibility, the driver's physical condition, vehicle condition and compliance with road markings are important factors in maintaining road safety.Drivers of heavy vehicles must ensure that their vehicles remain in the designated lane and maintain sufficient distance from other road users. An adequate safety distance provides the necessary time and space to brake or take evasive action in an emergency.
The Labuhanbatu Selatan Police also reminded the public to immediately report any incident requiring police intervention. Prompt reporting enables officers to respond quickly and reduce greater risks at the accident scene."We at the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police also appeal to the public: If you see or become aware of an incident requiring police intervention, immediately call the 110 Call Center or the nearest police station so that prompt action can be taken," AKP Yustina concluded.
Although the accident in the Asam Jawa area resulted in neither fatalities nor injuries, the damage to three heavy vehicles and the estimated material losses of around Rp100 million serve as a reminder that a single mistake on Jalinsum can quickly lead to a multi-vehicle accident.Discipline behind the wheel, compliance with road markings, appropriate speed and sufficient following distance are therefore essential to preventing similar accidents on this important interregional route in the future.
