READY TO FOLLOW UP ON RECESS RESULTS: North Sumatra Deputy Governor Surya explains during a plenary session in Medan on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, the provincial government's readiness to follow up on public concerns raised during the North Sumatra DPRD's recess activities.

MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The North Sumatra Provincial Government is ready to follow up on various public concerns collected by the North Sumatra Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) during its recess activities. The concerns will serve as one of the references in determining development priorities so that government programs are properly targeted and aligned with the needs of the people.

North Sumatra Deputy Governor Surya made the statement during a plenary session on the presentation of recess reports at the North Sumatra DPRD plenary hall in Medan on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.

Surya emphasized that the provincial government has a responsibility to follow up on concerns conveyed by the public through their elected representatives. In his view, the various proposals reflect the actual needs of communities in different regions and therefore require the government's attention.

"Following up on the concerns raised is our responsibility because they reflect the actual needs of the people," Surya said.

He explained that residents had submitted various proposals concerning development needs in their respective areas. The North Sumatra Provincial Government will review the proposals and prioritize them before incorporating them into regional development plans.

According to Surya, the process is important to ensure that the government does not merely collect public concerns but also translates them into concrete development programs that provide tangible benefits to the community.

Public Concerns as a Basis for Development Priorities

Surya said recess activities play an important role in bridging communication between the public and the government. Through recess activities, members of the North Sumatra DPRD can meet directly with their constituents, listen to various problems in the field and gather feedback on development needs.

He explained that the recess is a scheduled activity carried out in accordance with the DPRD's rules of procedure. It provides members of the North Sumatra DPRD with an opportunity to regularly collect public concerns, exchange information, interact directly with residents and gain an overview of development needs in their respective electoral districts.

Surya considered the results of the recess activities to be important input for the development planning process. The North Sumatra Provincial Government and the North Sumatra DPRD can subsequently discuss the various proposals to determine programs and measures that are in line with the region's capabilities and development priorities.

"This development will be implemented through programs and measures jointly formulated by the North Sumatra Provincial Government and the North Sumatra DPRD," Surya said.

He added that the government needs a planning process that is oriented toward the needs of the people. Therefore, the results of the recess activities must be taken into consideration during development planning discussions so that the resulting policies remain connected to the actual problems faced by communities.

Strengthening Executive-Legislative Cooperation

The North Sumatra Deputy Governor also emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between the regional government and the legislature. In his view, effective cooperation will help ensure that every development program has clear objectives and that its benefits are distributed fairly.

"Cooperation and synergy between the executive and legislative branches must and should continue to be strengthened so that every planned development program is properly targeted and benefits all people in the regencies and cities equally," Surya said.

Surya also expressed his appreciation to the North Sumatra DPRD for carrying out the recess activities and presenting their results during the plenary session.

In addition to collecting public concerns, legislators are also responsible for providing residents with information about various government programs. According to Surya, this dissemination of information is important so that people understand the direction of development policies and know which programs may benefit them.

He expressed hope that the leadership and all members of the North Sumatra DPRD would continue supporting efforts to strengthen cooperation between the regional government and the legislature. This synergy is expected to help accelerate the implementation of various development targets in North Sumatra.

Surya said the spirit of cooperation is an important component in realizing a capable, progressive and sustainable North Sumatra.

"Hopefully, the goals of strengthening cooperation can be achieved under the Sumut Berkah vision and on the path toward a capable, progressive and sustainable North Sumatra," Surya said.

Legislature Calls for Cross-Government Synergy

Earlier, recess teams from electoral districts 1 through 12 had submitted their respective activity reports. The reports contained various concerns collected from residents during recess activities in their respective electoral districts.

The plenary session was chaired by North Sumatra DPRD Deputy Speakers Salman Alfarisi and Ricky Anthony. Several members of the North Sumatra DPRD and heads of various organizational units within the North Sumatra Provincial Government also attended the session.

Alfiansyah, spokesperson for the recess team representing Electoral District 11, said that following up on public concerns requires sustained synergy between the North Sumatra Provincial Government and the North Sumatra DPRD.

He hoped the regional government would continue incorporating policy initiatives from the North Sumatra DPRD, which are based on public concerns, into discussions and development planning.

According to Alfiansyah, not all public concerns fall under the authority of the North Sumatra Provincial Government. Some issues require action from the central government, ministries, government institutions, state-owned enterprises or the respective regency governments.

Therefore, he called on the North Sumatra Provincial Government to play an active role in establishing cross-sectoral and intergovernmental coordination so that public concerns can be followed up according to the respective authorities.

"Therefore, we hope the North Sumatra Provincial Government will continue to actively cooperate with the central government, government institutions, state-owned enterprises and regency governments in responding to public concerns," Alfiansyah said.

Such cross-sectoral synergy is important to ensure that concerns collected during recess activities do not stop at the submission of reports. The North Sumatra Provincial Government and the North Sumatra DPRD should follow up on these concerns throughout the planning process, budget discussions and implementation of development programs.

In this way, the recess does not merely serve as a platform for legislators to collect public complaints and needs, but also becomes part of a development policy process that is more responsive to actual conditions in different regions.

The North Sumatra Provincial Government will subsequently categorize the various concerns according to priority and authority. This step is expected to improve the quality of development planning while ensuring that government programs provide greater benefits to people across all regencies and cities in North Sumatra.
