NIAS UTARA | INDATANEWS.COM - Plans to build and improve educational infrastructure at SD Negeri Lasara in Nias Utara Regency, North Sumatra, have been welcomed by local residents and the school community. The expected improvements are not only aimed at creating more comfortable learning conditions but also at improving access to education for children in surrounding areas.
North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution personally inspected the condition of SD Negeri Lasara on Friday, August 7, 2026. During his visit, he reviewed the classrooms and school facilities currently being used by students for learning activities.The students enthusiastically welcomed the governor's arrival. They were visibly excited when the North Sumatra governor greeted them in their classrooms and spoke directly with them. Despite the school's limited facilities, the government's presence has raised new hopes among the school, parents, and local residents, who have long relied on SD Negeri Lasara as an educational institution for their children.The distance was one of the main reasons residents called for the establishment of a new school. Parents and community representatives subsequently proposed the idea of building a school closer to residential areas so that children could have better access to primary education and would not be deprived of educational opportunities.
Head of SD Negeri Lasara Fitriani Hulu said the local community had paid close attention to the educational needs of children in the area from the very beginning."Initially, the reason was that many students in this area wanted to attend school, but the existing school in Hiligawoni Village was quite far away. That is why parents wanted to propose to the village authorities the idea of establishing a school nearby, so our children would not be left without an education," Fitriani Hulu, head of SD Negeri Lasara, said on Friday, August 7, 2026.
Since its establishment, SD Negeri Lasara has served the educational needs of children from surrounding areas. However, the growth in the number of students has not yet been matched by corresponding improvements in school infrastructure.Currently, 53 students from Grades 1 through 4 attend the school. They have only three classrooms available. As a result, the school administration must organize the use of the existing rooms so that all students can continue attending classes.
The limited infrastructure is also reflected in the condition of the classrooms, which are not yet housed in permanent buildings. First- and second-grade students even share the same room, which is divided only by a curtain.This situation was among the urgent concerns that Governor Bobby Nasution paid particular attention to during his visit. The construction of more suitable classrooms is expected to create a more comfortable learning environment for both students and teachers.
Fitriani welcomed the government's attention to the condition of her school. She expressed hope that the support would not stop at the current plans but would continue in order to meet the educational needs of SD Negeri Lasara."All of us at SD Negeri Lasara, including me personally as the principal, are very pleased and grateful for the extraordinary care and attention the governor has shown toward our school. We hope this assistance and support will continue in a sustainable manner," Fitriani said.
Yarni Hulu, a local resident and the mother of a student, said SD Negeri Lasara has been a major help to the community. Previously, children who wanted to attend school had to walk for hours to reach another school.
"The distance from our house to another primary school is about a two-hour walk," Yarni said.The economic circumstances of families are also an important factor in choosing a school for their children. Most residents living around SD Negeri Lasara have limited financial resources. As a result, not all parents own vehicles to take their children to schools located farther away.
For these families, having a school close to their homes means more than simply reducing the distance children have to travel. It also eases the burden on parents in their daily transportation and helps ensure that children can attend classes regularly.This was also confirmed by Yarma Harefa, another student's mother. She chose SD Negeri Lasara because the school is located close to her home. She said this was particularly helpful because she does not own a motorcycle to take her child to a more distant school.
"We chose SD Negeri Lasara because our house is also nearby. If we chose a school farther away, we would have difficulty taking the children there. We also do not have a motorcycle to take our children to school," Yarma said.According to Yarma, improving the school's infrastructure would bring significant changes to the learning process. She hopes the government will soon build additional classrooms so that students can study in better and more comfortable conditions.
"We therefore hope that after his visit today, the governor can help build classrooms that are more comfortable and better than those currently being used," Yarma said.
Beyond the issue of distance, residents also have high hopes for improvements to the educational infrastructure at SD Negeri Lasara. For parents, having a school nearby must go hand in hand with the availability of adequate learning spaces.
Yarni Hulu again expressed her appreciation for the government's attention to SD Negeri Lasara. In her view, government support is highly significant because the school is located in the middle of a residential area and plays an important role in meeting the educational needs of the local community."We thank the governor because our school, SD Lasara, has already received support and because the government has given it attention and special consideration," Yarni said.
