MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) of North Sumatra Province held a training session on preparing healthy foods and snacks to improve members' skills in preparing attractive, nutritious, and healthy meals for their families. The activity was also part of DWP North Sumatra's efforts to contribute to the development of healthy and high-quality families.
A total of 32 members of DWP North Sumatra Province took part in the training on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at Baking Studio Inti Jaya, 66A Jalan Dr. FL. Tobing, Pusat Pasar Medan. The participants not only received knowledge about food preparation but also gained direct practical experience to improve their skills in preparing meals and snacks.
Chairwoman of DWP North Sumatra Province Boya Yanti Gultom said the training was an important step for the organization to expand both the knowledge and practical skills of its members. DWP North Sumatra particularly encourages its members to prepare modern dishes while continuing to pay attention to nutritional value and health aspects.
"Through this activity, we want to provide DWP members with an opportunity to learn how to prepare modern and attractive dishes that also have good nutritional value and are healthy for the family," Boya said.
According to her, food preparation skills play an important role in supporting balanced eating habits within the family. DWP members are expected to be able to apply the knowledge gained from the training to provide meals that are not only tasty and attractively presented but also take into account the nutritional needs of their families.
During the training, participants had the opportunity to practice preparing dishes including sushi and marble cake. DWP North Sumatra invited Chef Pujo Sakti to serve as the professional instructor.
Chef Pujo Sakti is a professional chef who studied culinary arts at Universitas Negeri Medan and continued his studies at a culinary institution in Germany. His experience and expertise provided an important foundation for teaching participants various food preparation techniques.
Boya explained that the hands-on approach made the training materials easier for participants to understand. In addition to receiving explanations about each preparation process, participants were able to directly observe the steps involved and practice the techniques presented.
"We are guided directly through demonstrations in baking or cooking. This means the participants not only gain theoretical knowledge but can also practice the food preparation process themselves," she explained.
The training also provided participants with an opportunity to further develop their creativity in food preparation. Creativity is considered important because attractive presentation can increase family members' interest, particularly among children, in consuming healthy foods.
For DWP North Sumatra, the knowledge gained should not end when the training concludes. Members are encouraged to take the knowledge and experience they have acquired home and apply them in their daily family lives.

Boya emphasized that healthy food does not necessarily have to look plain or unattractive. With creativity and a good understanding of food preparation techniques, ingredients can be transformed into dishes that are appealing while maintaining their nutritional value.
This is one of the reasons DWP North Sumatra places particular emphasis on food preparation skills. Such skills can help members select and prepare food according to the needs of their families.
"We hope that the knowledge gained today can be applied at home. With creativity in food preparation, we can provide healthy and nutritious snacks that are enjoyed by children and the entire family," she said.
According to Boya, the family is the first environment in which eating habits are developed. Therefore, knowledge about healthy nutrition needs to be continuously expanded so that mothers can play an active role in providing meals that support the growth and health of family members.
Furthermore, activities of this kind can serve as a platform for DWP members to exchange experiences in food preparation. Discussions during the training allow participants to gain new ideas and develop them according to the needs of their respective families.
DWP North Sumatra hopes that similar activities will continue to provide long-term benefits for its members. Knowledge of modern food preparation, cooking techniques, and attractive presentation is expected to become a practical skill that can be applied in everyday life.

Boya emphasized that strengthening the capacity of its members is one of the priorities of DWP North Sumatra. Training in healthy food preparation is not merely about improving cooking skills but is also closely related to raising awareness of the importance of balanced and nutritious diets within the family.
These skills are expected to enable members to make better decisions when selecting food and adapt meals to their families' needs. They can also expand the variety of family menus, helping prevent family members from becoming bored with the dishes being served.
The combination of theory and practice also provided participants with hands-on experience. They were able to immediately practice the techniques they had learned and follow the entire food preparation process, from preparation to presentation.
Boya hopes that the skills acquired during the training will be consistently applied by DWP members in their daily lives. In her view, the benefits of the activity will be greater if the knowledge gained does not remain with the participants but is also put into practice in their everyday family routines.
"Training activities of this kind will continue to be supported to strengthen the capacity and skills of our members while also contributing to the creation of healthy and high-quality families," she said.
Through the training, DWP North Sumatra Province is not only improving its members' food preparation skills but also strengthening the role of families in developing healthy lifestyles. The activity is expected to encourage members to become more creative and provide nutritious, attractive meals tailored to their families' needs.
By continuously developing their skills, DWP North Sumatra hopes its members can contribute to creating healthier families by providing quality food. Food preparation training is therefore one form of activity that can provide direct benefits to family life. (IDNC)
