MEETING WITH THE NORTH SUMATRA MTQ DELEGATION: North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution meets with the North Sumatra delegation that participated in the 31st National MTQ on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, on the ninth floor of the North Sumatra Governor’s Office in Medan.

MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - North Sumatra Governor Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution has praised the performance of the North Sumatra delegation, which secured a place among the top five at the 31st National Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur'an (MTQ) in Semarang, Central Java. The achievement also fulfilled the target set by the North Sumatra Provincial Government before the delegation departed for the competition.

Bobby expressed his appreciation during a meeting with the participants who represented North Sumatra at the 31st National MTQ. The meeting was held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, on the ninth floor of the North Sumatra Governor's Office on Jalan Diponegoro in Medan.

"Alhamdulillah, the target of finishing among the top five has been achieved. This is an extraordinary achievement," Bobby said.

The result provides an important foundation for North Sumatra to further improve its performance at the next National MTQ. Bobby regarded the top-five finish as evidence of the hard work of the participants, mentors, trainers and everyone involved in preparing the North Sumatra delegation.

Bobby hopes the achievement will not stop at a top-five finish. The North Sumatra Provincial Government will continue to strengthen targeted development programs so that Qari and Qariah from North Sumatra can achieve even better results in future national competitions.

Performance Targets to Be Further Improved

Bobby expressed confidence that the North Sumatra delegation can improve its performance at the next National MTQ. To achieve this, precise, measurable and continuous preparation is required.

He therefore emphasized the importance of establishing a development system well before the National MTQ is held. The selection of participants must also be carried out properly so that those selected genuinely possess the skills needed to compete with delegations from various provinces across Indonesia.

Bobby assured that the North Sumatra Provincial Government would support various measures to improve the delegation's performance. The support would not be limited to participation in competitions, but would also include continuous development and improvement of the participants' abilities.

For Bobby, the participation of the North Sumatra delegation in the National MTQ also carries a broader meaning. The event is not merely a competition aimed at achieving results and comparing the abilities of different delegations.

He hopes the participants can use their abilities to bring blessings to North Sumatra. At the same time, the MTQ is expected to help strengthen the community's love for the Al-Qur'an.

According to Bobby, the willingness to read, understand and apply the values of the Al-Qur'an in daily life must continue to grow within society. The achievements of the Qari and Qariah should therefore also contribute positively to strengthening the dissemination of the message of the Al-Qur'an in North Sumatra.

Provincial Government Opens Space for Input

The North Sumatra Provincial Government is also providing Qari and Qariah with opportunities to submit input and suggestions regarding programs related to the promotion and development of activities associated with the Al-Qur'an.

Bobby hopes that feedback from participants and those involved in their training can serve as a basis for evaluation while also strengthening government programs. The various suggestions could also help the government develop a better selection and development system in preparation for the next National MTQ.

In his view, the experiences of Qari and Qariah who have already participated in national competitions are an important basis for evaluating the delegation's preparation. The government can use these experiences to determine which areas need to be improved and further developed.

Through a continuous development system, North Sumatra is expected not only to maintain its position among the top five delegations but also to further improve its standing at the next National MTQ.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Executive Board of the North Sumatra Institute for the Development of Qur'an Recitation (LPTQ), Muhammad Yasir Tanjung, said the North Sumatra delegation's performance at the 31st National MTQ represented an improvement compared with the previous event.

Yasir said the achievement could not be separated from the support provided by the North Sumatra Provincial Government to the delegation during the National MTQ in Central Java. The government's support was also reflected in the awarding of incentives to participants who achieved results in the competition.

Three First-Place Finishes for North Sumatra

Yasir explained that the North Sumatra Provincial Government provides incentives according to the respective achievements of the participants. The first-place winner receives IDR 100 million, the second-place winner IDR 75 million and the third-place winner IDR 50 million.

Participants who achieve first honorable mention receive IDR 10 million, while second honorable mention is awarded IDR 7.5 million and third honorable mention IDR 5 million.

The incentives represent a form of government recognition for the efforts of participants who represented North Sumatra in a national competition. In addition to recognizing the winners, the support is also intended to motivate other participants to continue developing their abilities in preparation for future competitions.

"At the 31st MTQ, North Sumatra achieved three first-place finishes, two second-place finishes, two third-place finishes, as well as first, second and third honorable mentions," Yasir said.

The result strengthens North Sumatra's position in the competition at the 31st National MTQ. Three first-place finishes, two second-place finishes and two third-place finishes demonstrate that several participants from North Sumatra advanced to the leading positions in their respective disciplines.

Yasir praised the comprehensive support provided by the Governor of North Sumatra to the delegation. In his view, government support is an important component in ensuring continuous development while preparing participants for future national-level competitions.

As the next step, the North Sumatra LPTQ will evaluate the results achieved at the 31st National MTQ. The evaluation will serve as a basis for future development programs, including the preparation of participants who will represent North Sumatra at the 2027 National MTQ.

The National MTQ is now held annually. Following the event in Semarang, Central Java, the competition will be held in the Special Capital Region of Jakarta (DKI Jakarta) in 2027.

The change to an annual event schedule means that the North Sumatra LPTQ must accelerate its preparations. The time available for developing and selecting participants is becoming increasingly important to ensure that North Sumatra has a well-prepared delegation for the national competition.

The North Sumatra LPTQ will immediately undertake various preparations to further improve the results already achieved. The next target is to place North Sumatra among the top three or four delegations at the national level.

Achieving this requires continuous development, more targeted participant selection and support from various stakeholders. With its top-five finish at the 31st National MTQ, North Sumatra now has a foundation from which to prepare more strategically for the 2027 National MTQ in DKI Jakarta.

For the North Sumatra Provincial Government and LPTQ, however, improving competitive performance is not the only objective. The development of Qari and Qariah is also part of efforts to strengthen the dissemination of the message of the Al-Qur'an and encourage more young people in North Sumatra to further develop their abilities in Qur'an recitation.
