LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM – A 32-year-old man has been arrested in Pekanbaru following a fatal stabbing incident involving his mother-in-law during the dawn prayer (Salat Subuh) in Aek Batu Village, Torgamba District, Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency, North Sumatra, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at around 05:15 a.m. WIB.
The victim, Nurlan Br. Pasaribu (46), a housewife, was reportedly attacked inside her home while performing the dawn prayer. The suspect, identified as Reri Pardila alias AI (32), allegedly entered the residence and stabbed her with a knife before fleeing the scene immediately after the incident.Read Also:
A witness, Suwarti (32), heard screams coming from the house and found the victim in a severely injured condition. Residents quickly rushed her to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment.

The Torgamba Sector Police, led by AKP Sunipan Gurusinga, promptly initiated an investigation after receiving the report. Criminal Unit Chief Iptu Rajo Irawan Hamonangan was assigned to lead the case handling and pursuit of the suspect.

Cross-Provincial Manhunt
Following initial findings, police identified the suspect, who fled across provincial borders into Riau Province using public transportation. Authorities tracked his movement through several areas, including Rokan Hilir and Kampar, as the manhunt expanded across jurisdictions.Arrest Without Resistance in Pekanbaru
The suspect's escape ended on Friday, May 1, 2026, at around 01:00 a.m., when the Torgamba Police task force apprehended him at a travel agency on Jalan HR Subrantas, Pekanbaru. The arrest was made without resistance.The suspect has since been transported to the Torgamba Police Station for further interrogation. He is expected to be charged under Article 466 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 466 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP) for aggravated assault.
