DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - The Deli Serdang Regency Team for Family Empowerment and Family Welfare (TP PKK) has called on parents to strengthen their role in shaping children's character from an early age. The family is the first environment where children learn values such as kindness, discipline, responsibility, and care before receiving more comprehensive education at school.
The message was delivered by TP PKK Deli Serdang Expert Advisor I, Asniar Lom Lom Suwondo, during the "PKK Goes to School" event at TK Negeri Pembina in Talun Kenas Village, STM Hilir District, on Thursday, September 3, 2026.Asniar explained that early childhood education requires close cooperation between schools and families. In her view, while schools play an important role in providing education, parents remain primarily responsible for shaping their children's habits and character through daily guidance and companionship.
"Early childhood education is a shared responsibility. Schools provide education, but character building also begins at home," she said.She emphasized that parents' presence in a child's development should not be limited to meeting their daily needs. Parents must also provide attention and affection, accompany their children, and become role models through their own behavior.
According to Asniar, the habits children encounter within their families can shape behavioral patterns that they later carry into their social lives and school learning processes. Therefore, parents need to create a home environment that supports the development of positive habits.She said that introducing positive behaviors from an early age helps children experience and understand these values directly. When families and schools promote the same habits, children find it easier to understand them and apply them in their daily lives.
"Children need to be accustomed to doing good things from an early age. When these habits are taught consistently at home and at school, their character will become stronger," she said.She expressed hope that parents would not leave the entire character-building process to schools. Instead, families and educators need to communicate with one another and develop mutually supportive forms of guidance so that children can develop to their full potential.
The message is in line with the introduction of the "7 Habits of Great Indonesian Children" (7 Kebiasaan Anak Indonesia Hebat), which was part of the "PKK Goes to School" event. The program involved students, parents, and educators, with the aim of fostering positive habits among children from an early age.Through the event, TP PKK Deli Serdang not only encouraged children to learn various positive habits but also raised parents' awareness of the important role families play in supporting their children's education and development.
Asniar urged parents not to allow their children unlimited access to smartphones and other electronic devices. Proper supervision is necessary to ensure that technology does not interfere with study time, children's activities, or their health.
"Children may use mobile phones for learning or entertainment, but not for too long. Parents must continue to supervise them so that they do not neglect their studies and can protect their eye health," she cautioned.In Asniar's view, parental supervision is particularly important because young children still need guidance to understand both the benefits and risks of technology. Parents can help their children choose age-appropriate activities and ensure that the use of electronic devices does not replace direct interaction with family members and their social environment.
She also reminded parents that education is not solely associated with academic learning. Children need interaction, communication, attention, and concrete role models from their immediate surroundings to develop good habits.Therefore, Asniar encouraged families to view everyday activities as part of the educational process. Learning habits, polite communication, respect for others, health awareness, and a sense of responsibility can all be instilled by parents through consistent example and continuous guidance.
The provision of nutritious food is part of the support for children's physical development. Good nutrition, combined with appropriate education and upbringing, is an important factor in supporting children's development from an early age.
Asniar also emphasized the need to continue improving the quality of early childhood education, including support for educators. In her view, teachers and other education professionals play an important role in providing children with learning experiences appropriate to their stage of development."Our children are the generation that will determine the future. Therefore, we must provide them with the best possible education and upbringing from now on," she said.
She expressed hope that cooperation among the government, TP PKK, schools, educators, and families would continue to be strengthened. Such collaboration is necessary to ensure that educational and child-development programs are not limited to the school environment but are also comprehensively supported by families.The "PKK Goes to School" event at TK Negeri Pembina took place in a lively and cheerful atmosphere. Students, parents, and educators participated together in various activities, including singing the Indonesian national anthem, "Indonesia Raya," and a song about the "7 Habits of Great Indonesian Children."
The event also provided an opportunity for TP PKK Deli Serdang to once again highlight the importance of character building, education, adequate nutrition, and responsible supervision of children's use of technology.Through active parental involvement from an early age, TP PKK Deli Serdang hopes that children will grow up with strong character and positive habits while receiving the educational and parental support they need as a foundation for their future.
