DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM ~ A deadly landslide struck the village of Sembahe, Sibolangit, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, Indonesia, on Tuesday evening, April 7, 2026, claiming five lives. Nine homes were destroyed, and one person remains hospitalized. The hydrometeorological disaster occurred just behind the RM Dina Mala restaurant, forcing many residents to seek refuge with relatives.
The Deli Serdang government immediately set up an emergency response center, providing medical care, community kitchens, and temporary tents for affected residents. Police barricades were also established to prevent unauthorized access to the area.

Regent Inspects the Landslide Area
On Wednesday, April 8, 2026, Deli Serdang Regent Asri Ludin Tambunan, accompanied by Deputy Regent Lom Lom Suwondo and representatives from Forkopimda, visited the landslide site. He assured that all needs of the affected residents would be met and that emergency measures were being implemented efficiently."On behalf of the government, we extend our condolences. Our visit aims to ensure that all the needs of the affected community are fulfilled. We continue to coordinate with all relevant agencies so that aid is delivered quickly and effectively," said Asri Ludin.
Read Also:In addition to immediate relief, the Regent emphasized the importance of preventive measures in other landslide-prone areas in Kecamatan Sibolangit. A joint team identified about five smaller landslide-prone zones, including near roads in Bingkawan village, posing risks to motorists.
"Removal of soil from these critical points has already begun. After clearing, we plan to reinforce the slopes and build retaining walls," added Asri Ludin.

The Regent urged residents, especially those living in hilly and landslide-prone areas, to exercise caution and report potential hazards early to prevent further damage. He also visited several patients still receiving intensive medical treatment.
Medan Police Chief Kombes Pol Jean Calvijn Simanjuntak stated that a joint team from the government, TNI, police, Basarnas, and BPBD continues to operate on-site to ensure optimal assistance."We are still isolating the landslide area as the soil remains unstable. We strongly advise residents to stay away for everyone's safety," Simanjuntak emphasized. (IDNC)
