HANDOVER OF CORN SHELLING MACHINES: Deputy Regent of Deli Serdang Lom Lom Suwondo, together with the PWRI Deli Serdang board, hands over two corn shelling machines to the Kemakmuran Farmers Group in Patumbak II Village, Patumbak District, on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.

DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - Deputy Regent of Deli Serdang, Lom Lom Suwondo SS, praised the commitment of the Persatuan Wredatama Republik Indonesia (PWRI) in Deli Serdang to supporting the community. The organization, whose members are retired civil servants (ASN), made a concrete contribution by handing over two corn shelling machines to the Kemakmuran Farmers Group (Poktan) in Patumbak II Village, Patumbak District, on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.

The assistance was handed over at Cafe Taman Bunga in Patumbak II Village. The event was also part of the celebrations marking the inauguration of the PWRI Deli Serdang board for the 2023–2028 term.

Lom Lom said the PWRI initiative demonstrated that the spirit of service does not end when civil servants retire. In his view, retired ASN continue to possess experience, knowledge and a strong sense of social responsibility that can make a valuable contribution to regional development and community empowerment.

Commitment Beyond Retirement

Lom Lom said the extensive experience of PWRI members provided an important foundation for their continued involvement in community life. He also praised former ASN who, despite having entered retirement, continued to maintain solidarity and make efforts to provide concrete contributions to society.

"We are pleased to see the commitment of our senior ASN colleagues, who continue to maintain solidarity and want to do good. Apparently, service does not end with retirement," Lom Lom said.

According to Lom Lom, PWRI is not merely an organization that maintains ties among retired ASN, but can also serve as a social force supporting the regional government in various programs for the community.

He described the spirit of community within PWRI as a potential that could be directed toward activities providing direct benefits to residents. One such form of contribution is support for the agricultural sector, which remains an important area for securing the community's economic livelihoods.

The handover of two corn shelling machines to the Kemakmuran Farmers Group is intended to assist farmers, particularly in post-harvest activities. With the additional equipment, farmers can speed up the shelling process, reduce the physical burden associated with manual labor and improve efficiency in processing agricultural products.

Lom Lom expressed hope that the assistance would not only provide technical benefits to the farmers' group but also contribute to increased productivity and agricultural yields. He called on all parties to continue strengthening the spirit of mutual support so that assistance for farmers can be sustained over the long term.

Support for More Efficient Agriculture

Lom Lom also expressed hope that PWRI Deli Serdang would continue expanding its social commitment through other community-oriented and empowerment activities. In his view, the experience and capabilities of retired ASN remain highly valuable in supporting development programs that directly address the needs of the community.

He emphasized that cooperation among community organizations, the regional government, farmers' groups and other stakeholders could generate greater benefits for residents. Even seemingly simple forms of assistance, such as providing agricultural machinery, can help farmers complete their work more quickly while improving efficiency.

In addition to the agricultural sector, Lom Lom encouraged PWRI to develop other activities that respond to community needs. With the experience of its board members and members, PWRI could, in his assessment, become a strategic partner in implementing various social activities at the village and community levels.

Chairman of PWRI Deli Serdang, Zainal Arifin, said the handover of the corn shelling machines was a form of gratitude marking the inauguration and appointment of the PWRI Deli Serdang board, which had taken place some time earlier.

Zainal said PWRI wanted to ensure that the organization would continue to benefit society even after its members had completed their active service. Supporting the farmers' group was one of the ways the organization expressed its commitment to the community.

"We want to continue being useful to society. This assistance is a form of PWRI's commitment to farmers, so they can carry out their work more effectively and increase their agricultural yields," Zainal said.

PWRI Plans Further Social Programs

Zainal added that PWRI Deli Serdang would not limit its activities to the distribution of corn shelling machines. The organization is also preparing several other social programs as part of its commitment to the community.

Among the initiatives currently being prepared is a plan to distribute fishing nets to fishermen next year. The program is part of PWRI's efforts to reach community groups that need support in carrying out their economic activities.

According to Zainal, these social activities are intended to reflect PWRI's concrete presence within the community. PWRI board members and members want to remain involved in activities that have a positive impact on residents, according to the organization's capabilities and available resources.

The handover of the corn shelling machines also highlighted the importance of the involvement of various community stakeholders in supporting the agricultural sector. Farmers' groups need not only assistance throughout the production process but also appropriate equipment that enables them to process their harvests more efficiently.

Several heads of regional agencies, district officials and village heads also attended the appreciation event and handover ceremony. The presence of representatives from regional and village administrations demonstrated support for PWRI activities aimed at strengthening and empowering the community.

Through this assistance, PWRI Deli Serdang has demonstrated that retirement does not have to be a barrier to continued social engagement. With experience, a sense of responsibility and community spirit, retired ASN can continue to play an active role in supporting the community and regional development. (IDNC)
