LABUHANBATU UTARA | INDATANEWS.COM - Tensions in Kualuh Hulu escalated sharply on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, after a fatal incident triggered public outrage and widespread unrest. An office belonging to Agrinas Palma Nusantara in Dusun Kilang Mili, Sukarame Baru Village, was reportedly set on fire by angry residents following the death of a local man identified by the surname Hutabarat.

Initial reports indicate that two members of the Indonesian National Armed Forces allegedly detained the victim within the company's operational area before transporting him away by vehicle. Shortly afterward, the man was found dead under unclear circumstances. News of his death quickly circulated, fueling anger and demands for accountability among local residents.

Public Anger Escalates Into Arson

A large group of residents subsequently gathered at the Agrinas Palma Nusantara office to seek clarification. However, the alleged military personnel had already left the location. The situation rapidly deteriorated, culminating in an arson attack that engulfed parts of the building in flames, sending thick smoke into the air.

Police Contain Situation and Launch Probe

The unrest continued as residents reportedly pursued the vehicle of the two suspected soldiers, with the chase ending at the Kualuh Hulu Police Station. Police forces intervened to prevent further escalation and restore order in the area. Authorities have confirmed the incident and are currently conducting a thorough investigation into both the death and the subsequent unrest.

The village head of Sukarame Baru, Zaini, briefly confirmed the incident, stating, "Yes, that's correct." Meanwhile, AKP Citra Yani Barus SH, head of the Kualuh Hulu Police Station, also acknowledged the events and said further details are still being examined.
