LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM - Police from the Sungai Kanan Sector (Polsek Sungai Kanan) under the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police have demolished several huts allegedly used as locations for drug abuse. The operation was carried out on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, in Dusun Suka Ramai and Dusun Simandiangin, Desa Sabungan, Kecamatan Sungai Kanan, Labuhanbatu Selatan.
The demolition was carried out as part of a Gerebek Sarang Narkoba (GSN), a police operation targeting suspected drug-use locations. The operation followed information from residents regarding alleged activities linked to narcotics abuse in the area.Sungai Kanan Police Chief Iptu Apri Sudiarno Damanik, S.H., M.H., personally led the operation. He was assisted by Criminal Investigation Unit Chief Ipda Ade I Samura, S.H., along with officers from the Sungai Kanan Police Criminal Investigation Unit.
Police also involved representatives of the village administration and the landowner in the operation. Desa Sabungan Secretary Parsatuan Rangkuti, Dusun Simandiangin Head Dani, and landowner Haji Sakti Tambak accompanied officers during the GSN operation.After receiving the information, Sungai Kanan Police officers immediately went to the reported location. The officers inspected the area to determine the actual situation and follow up on the information provided by residents.
Upon arrival, officers found several tents and huts. Based on their initial assessment, the structures were suspected of having been used for activities related to drug abuse.The officers then searched the area surrounding the huts and inspected the available locations. During the inspection, they found various items allegedly associated with narcotics use. Officers also found remnants of alcohol bottles and domino cards.
Police secured the items found at the location and took them to the Sungai Kanan Police Station for further processing and examination.In addition to inspecting the location, officers also checked people who were present in the surrounding area.
In Dusun Suka Ramai, officers encountered a man identified by the initials HDR. Police checked and searched HDR because of suspicions that he was intending to purchase narcotics.However, the search did not uncover any evidence that HDR possessed methamphetamine, locally known as sabu.
The officers then continued their checks in Dusun Simandiangin, where they encountered two men identified by the initials HR and MT.Both men were checked and questioned by officers. Police also found no narcotics that could be used as evidence from HR or MT.
The examination of the three men was among the findings recorded during the GSN operation in Desa Sabungan. Police emphasized that a person's involvement in an alleged drug offense must be established solely on the basis of facts and legally obtained evidence.
After inspecting the area, police, the village administration and the landowner took preventive measures. Together, they demolished several tents and huts at the location.
The structures were removed because police assessed that they could potentially be used again for narcotics abuse. Following the demolition, officers and the other parties involved burned the remains of the structures.The measure formed part of joint efforts by police and the community to eliminate places that could potentially be used for narcotics abuse or other activities that could disrupt public safety and order.
Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Chief AKBP Rosef Efendi, S.I.K., M.H., CPHR., conveyed through Sungai Kanan Police Chief Iptu Apri Sudiarno Damanik, S.H., M.H., that the GSN operation was a police response to information received from the community.According to Iptu Apri Sudiarno, police would follow up on every report concerning suspected narcotics abuse, particularly reports involving locations that receive little supervision or monitoring.
"We will follow up on every piece of information from the community regarding suspected drug abuse. We do not want places that are largely unsupervised to become locations where activities related to drug abuse can develop," Iptu Apri Sudiarno said.He explained that combating drug abuse requires the involvement of all elements of society. Police cannot handle the issue alone and need support from village administrations, landowners and residents.
"Prevention must be carried out together. We call on residents, the village administration and landowners to work together to maintain security in their surroundings so that these areas do not become places for drug abuse," he said.
In addition to demolishing the huts and securing the items found at the location, officers also provided guidance to residents. Police reminded the community about the dangers of drug abuse and its impact on social life and the future of younger generations.Officers also urged residents to work together to maintain security and public order in their respective areas. The role of residents is particularly important because they are directly present in their neighborhoods and are often in the best position to notice unusual activities.
The operation also demonstrated the importance of public information as a basis for police field inspections. After receiving the report, Sungai Kanan Police officers immediately went to the location to verify the situation and take appropriate measures based on the findings of their investigation.In handling suspected drug offenses, police continue to rely on facts and legally obtained evidence. The fact that no methamphetamine was found on HDR, HR or MT during the GSN operation therefore forms part of the investigation findings and must be taken into account objectively.
The demolition of the huts also served as a preventive measure intended to reduce the possibility that the area could again be used as a location for drug abuse. Police, the village administration and the landowner are working together to prevent an area that previously received limited supervision from becoming a new hotspot.The GSN operation in Desa Sabungan is expected to further strengthen cooperation between the Sungai Kanan Police, the village administration, landowners and residents in preventing narcotics abuse and illegal drug trafficking.
The Labuhanbatu Selatan Police, through the Sungai Kanan Police, reaffirmed their commitment to continuing both preventive measures and law enforcement efforts in accordance with applicable legal provisions.The presence of police among residents is also intended to strengthen shared awareness that combating drug-related crime requires continuous monitoring of the surrounding environment, as well as residents' willingness to report information to the relevant authorities.
