LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The Labuhanbatu Selatan District Prosecutor's Office, together with law enforcement agencies, destroyed 217.47 grams of crystal methamphetamine and 2.74 grams of marijuana. The drugs were evidence from a total of 92 criminal cases that had received final and legally binding verdicts. The destruction was carried out on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the Labuhanbatu Selatan District Prosecutor's Office on Jalan Istana, Kotapinang District.
Several law enforcement agencies and relevant institutions took part in the activity. The destruction of evidence represents the final stage in the handling of a criminal case after all legal proceedings have been completed and the verdicts have become legally binding.Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Chief AKBP Rosef Efendi, S.I.K., M.H., CPHR., was represented by Kotapinang Sector Police Chief AKP Maruli Tua Siregar, S.H., M.H. The presence of the police underscored inter-agency cooperation in ensuring that evidence from cases that have been legally concluded cannot be misused again.
Of the 92 cases whose evidence was destroyed, 61 involved drug-related offenses. The figure is significant because it shows that drug crime remains one of the legal challenges in Labuhanbatu Selatan that requires consistent and sustained efforts to combat.
In addition to drug cases, the Labuhanbatu Selatan District Prosecutor's Office recorded 30 cases involving offenses against persons, property and other assets, categorized as Oharda. One other case fell under the category of state security and public order, known as Kamnegtibum.The high proportion of drug-related cases among the evidence destroyed highlights the need for continuous efforts to combat drug trafficking. Law enforcement through case investigations and court proceedings must be accompanied by prevention efforts within the community.
During the activity, the evidence was destroyed through procedures designed to make it impossible to reuse. The crystal methamphetamine was ground by officers using a blender and then mixed with chemicals so that it could no longer be used.Mobile phones and other items that had served as evidence were also destroyed or rendered unusable. The destroyed evidence included not only narcotics but also mobile phones, egrek knives, machetes, pieces of iron, fiber materials and various other items connected to the criminal cases.
The process was carried out under the supervision of several relevant authorities. The presence of the participating agencies formed part of the transparency and accountability measures in the final handling of evidence from cases that had passed through all stages of the legal process.
Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Chief AKBP Rosef Efendi, through Kotapinang Sector Police Chief AKP Maruli Tua Siregar, said the destruction of evidence was an important part of law enforcement.
"The destruction of this evidence reflects our shared commitment to enforcing the law. Evidence for which a legally binding decision has been issued must be destroyed in accordance with applicable regulations so that it cannot be misused again," AKP Maruli Tua Siregar said, conveying the message of the police chief.According to him, the destruction of narcotics in particular is a concrete step in supporting joint efforts to break the chain of drug trafficking within the jurisdiction of Labuhanbatu Selatan.
He stressed that efforts to combat drug crime cannot be limited to arrests and criminal proceedings. Prevention must be carried out simultaneously, including educating the younger generation, monitoring the social environment, involving families and encouraging the public to actively report suspicious activities.The Labuhanbatu Selatan police chief also reaffirmed that combating drug trafficking is not solely the responsibility of law enforcement agencies.
"Drug trafficking poses a serious threat because its impact can harm the younger generation and the social life of the community. Therefore, the police, prosecutors and all relevant stakeholders will continue to strengthen cooperation to prevent and combat drug trafficking," he emphasized.The statement highlights the importance of cross-sector cooperation in addressing the threat posed by drugs. The police, prosecutors, TNI, regional government, educational institutions, families and the public each have an important role in creating a safer environment and curbing drug trafficking.
The people of Labuhanbatu Selatan were therefore urged not to turn a blind eye when they encounter suspected drug trafficking or other criminal activity. Information from the public can help authorities identify activities that could threaten security and public order.

Also present were First Lieutenant Inf Rahma Suriyadi, representing the commander of Koramil/11 Kotapinang; representatives of the Labuhanbatu Selatan Health Office and Environmental Office; section heads and the head of the administrative sub-section at the Labuhanbatu Selatan District Prosecutor's Office; representatives of SMK Ki Hajar Dewantara Kotapinang vocational school; invited guests; and members of the media.The destruction of the evidence was not merely a ceremonial event. Behind the 92 criminal cases that had reached final and legally binding conclusions were extensive legal processes that had to be completed through the final stage. This also included ensuring that all evidence was handled in accordance with applicable regulations.
