LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM International Workers' Day 2026 was marked not as a ceremonial event, but as a strategic forum for dialogue between the government, workers, and employers in Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency, North Sumatra.

Regent Fery Sahputra Simatupang emphasized that May Day should serve as a meaningful space for communication and consensus-building rather than a symbolic celebration. He delivered the statement during an official gathering held at the "Santun Berkata Bijak Berkarya" Hall in Kotapinang District on Friday, May 1, 2026.

"May Day is a moment of unity. We sit together, engage in dialogue, and seek the best solutions for the welfare of workers and their families," said Fery.

The event was attended by Deputy Regent Syahdian Purba Siboro, members of the Regional Leadership Forum (Forkopimda), Police Chief Aditya SP Sembiring, Military Commander Hendra Gunawan, and Regional Secretary M. Reza Pahlevi Nasution.

Their presence reflected a collective commitment to strengthening industrial relations and maintaining labor stability in the region through coordinated governance and cooperation.

UMSK 2026 Set at IDR 3.745 Million

During the commemoration, the Labuhanbatu Selatan government officially set the 2026 Sectoral Minimum Wage (UMSK) at IDR 3,745,000, marking an increase of IDR 285,000 from the previous year.

The adjustment reflects the government's attempt to balance worker welfare protection with economic sustainability amid ongoing market dynamics and labor competition.

May Day 2026 Focuses on Future Workforce Challenges

This year's celebration carried the theme "Joint Collaboration for Industrial Progress and Workers' Welfare," highlighting key challenges in the modern labor sector, including digital transformation, skill enhancement, and workforce adaptability.

Fery called on all stakeholders to use May Day as a momentum to strengthen shared commitments toward prosperity.

"Let us make May Day a moment of collective commitment—one goal, one will: shared prosperity," he concluded.

The Labuhanbatu Selatan government reaffirmed its commitment to implementing effective labor policies that directly contribute to improving workers' welfare in the region. (IDNC)
