DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM- Deli Serdang Regent Asri Ludin Tambunan has ensured that the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meals (Makan Bergizi Gratis/MBG) program for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers in Sunggal District is carried out properly and in accordance with applicable regulations. Together with the Chairperson of the Deli Serdang TP PKK, Jelita Asri Ludin Tambunan, the Regent directly inspected the program implementation on Monday, July 27, 2026.
The inspection was conducted to ensure that the national priority program initiated by the central government is able to meet the nutritional needs of its target groups while also becoming part of the Deli Serdang Regional Government's strategy to prevent stunting in the regency.
During the visit, Asri Ludin Tambunan held direct discussions with MBG program beneficiaries. He ensured that pregnant women receive assistance from health workers and access various medical services, including the distribution of iron tablets to prevent anemia, pregnancy examinations at Posyandu health centers, and ultrasound (USG) examinations.
According to Asri Ludin Tambunan, ensuring adequate nutrition during the first 1,000 days of life (HPK) plays a crucial role in developing a healthy and high-quality future generation.
"All of these examinations are provided free of charge for mothers. Please make the best use of these services so that government programs can truly provide benefits and positive impacts for the community," he said.
Asri Ludin explained that the Free Nutritious Meals program is not merely focused on food distribution but also serves as a strategic effort to strengthen maternal and child healthcare services. Through this program, the government seeks to ensure that vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers, receive adequate nutritional intake according to their needs.
He emphasized that the success of the program requires the involvement of all parties, particularly healthcare workers, nutrition kitchen operators, village administrations, cooperatives, and program beneficiaries.
Following the inspection, Asri Ludin witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and commitment agreement between the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) and the Sei Semayang Red and White Village Cooperative (Koperasi Desa Merah Putih/KDMP). The agreement covers food supply and operational requirements for the MBG program.
Through this cooperation, KDMP will become one of the partners supplying food ingredients to SPPG units based on the needs of nutrition kitchens. The partnership is expected to strengthen the food supply chain while creating opportunities for farmers, micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM), as well as local businesses to participate in this national program.
"My visit is aimed at ensuring that the government program is implemented in Sunggal District. The sustainability of the Free Nutritious Meals program must create direct benefits for the community, both for beneficiaries and for farmers, UMKM, and cooperatives involved in this program," he stated.
Asri Ludin revealed that 35 SPPG units in Sunggal District have currently expressed their readiness to support the use of local products through partnerships with the Red and White Village Cooperative.
He believes that the involvement of farmers, UMKM, and local cooperatives in supplying food ingredients will create broader economic impacts for the people of Deli Serdang.
The Regent urged all SPPG operators to prioritize the use of locally sourced food products to strengthen cooperation and encourage the growth of the regional economy.
"I hope nutrition kitchens can directly source their ingredients from farmers, UMKM, and cooperatives. Let us first utilize the existing potential in Deli Serdang so that the benefits of this program can reach a wider community," he said.
In addition to promoting local products, the Regent reminded SPPG operators to maintain the quality of meals distributed to beneficiaries. He stressed that every meal provided must meet quality standards and must not be wasted.
"I do not want to receive reports that food is unsuitable or being discarded. This program must be implemented with full responsibility because it concerns the nutrition and health of the community," he added.
Asri Ludin considers monitoring a vital component in ensuring that the Free Nutritious Meals program truly benefits the people. He called on all stakeholders involved to implement the program with commitment and responsibility, as it concerns the health of future generations.
He hopes that cooperation between SPPG, KDMP, the Regional Government, and the community can create a sustainable nutrition system in Deli Serdang Regency.
Through this collaboration, the Regional Government aims not only to improve public health quality but also to expand economic benefits by involving various local sectors in the implementation of the MBG program.
The event was also attended by Chairperson of the Deli Serdang TP PKK Jelita Asri Ludin Tambunan, Deli Serdang SPPG Coordinator Yoga Aztrianto, together with SPPG leaders across Sunggal District, representatives from relevant agencies, and MBG beneficiaries from Group 3B. (IDNC)
