DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - The Deli Serdang Regency Government, in collaboration with Yayasan Buddha Tzu Chi Indonesia, launched the "Berbenah Kampung" program to renovate residents' houses in Perumahan Nelayan Asri, Paluh Sibaji Village, Pantai Labu Subdistrict, on Friday, September 18, 2026. The program is part of a multi-stakeholder collaboration aimed at improving residents' housing conditions more quickly while supporting the provision of decent homes.
The launch of the "Berbenah Kampung" program in the area marked the beginning of a phased renovation of residents' houses. In its first phase, the program focuses on 52 housing units in Pantai Labu. Overall, 300 houses across Deli Serdang Regency are scheduled for renovation.
The collaboration between the Deli Serdang Regency Government and Yayasan Buddha Tzu Chi Indonesia is part of efforts to improve houses classified as uninhabitable or inadequate, commonly referred to as RTLH. The regional government continues to involve various community and institutional stakeholders so that the need for decent housing can be addressed more comprehensively and in a targeted manner.
Mujianto, Chairman of Yayasan Buddha Tzu Chi Indonesia for North Sumatra and Aceh, said the "Berbenah Kampung" program reflects cooperation and mutual support in helping accelerate the government's three-million-housing program.
According to Mujianto, Deli Serdang is already the 16th region where the collaboration has been implemented. Of the 500 houses allocated for the program in North Sumatra, 300 are designated for Deli Serdang. The implementation is being carried out in stages, with the first phase covering 52 houses in Pantai Labu Subdistrict.
"Deli Serdang is the 16th region in this collaboration. North Sumatra has an allocation of 500 houses, while Deli Serdang has 300. The implementation begins gradually in Pantai Labu with 52 units," he said.
Mujianto expressed hope that support from the Deli Serdang Regency Government and local residents would help ensure that every beneficiary family receives decent housing. He said cooperation between the government, social institutions and the community is an important element in improving people's quality of life through better housing conditions.
The renovation work will not only address the physical condition of the houses but is also expected to provide immediate benefits to the affected families. Improved housing conditions can help create a safer and more comfortable living environment for the beneficiaries.
Deli Serdang Regent dr. H. Asri Ludin Tambunan expressed his appreciation for the support from various parties in accelerating efforts to improve inadequate housing in the regency. He said the partnership with Yayasan Buddha Tzu Chi Indonesia expands the scope of housing improvement programs currently being implemented in Deli Serdang.
In addition to the 300 houses supported by Yayasan Buddha Tzu Chi Indonesia, Deli Serdang will receive assistance for another 300 houses from Indonesia's Minister of Home Affairs. The support is recognition of the regional government's contribution to implementing the three-million-housing program, one of the President's priorities.
With additional support from various sources, more than 1,000 houses in Deli Serdang are targeted for improvement this year to help residents obtain decent housing.
"In total, more than 1,000 houses are targeted this year so that residents can live in decent homes. A total of 235 houses are financed through the regional budget, APBD; 380 through village budgets, APBDes, under the 'One Village, One House' program; seven through Baznas from zakat contributions by civil servants; 300 houses as recognition from the Minister of Home Affairs; and today, another 300 houses are being added through Yayasan Buddha Tzu Chi," he explained.
Asri Ludin said the achievement could only be realized through cooperation among various parties. The Deli Serdang Regency Government is consolidating support from the regional budget, village budgets, social institutions and the central government to expand efforts to improve inadequate housing.
He expressed hope that all construction and renovation work could proceed according to schedule. The regional government also called for the work to be completed on time so that beneficiary families could benefit from the program as soon as possible.
"Hopefully, today's work can be completed on schedule, and we can make Kampung Berkah a model for the arrangement of slum areas," he said.
The statement reflects the regional government's commitment to ensuring that the "Berbenah Kampung" program is not limited to renovating individual houses. Improvements to the surrounding residential environment will also be considered so that living conditions can develop into a more decent and orderly residential area.
For beneficiary residents, the renovation of their homes represents important support for their families' comfort. One of the residents of Perumahan Nelayan Asri, Saparruddin, expressed his gratitude after his house was selected to receive renovation assistance.
Saparruddin hopes the improvements will make his home more comfortable for him and his family. He also thanked everyone involved in providing assistance through the "Berbenah Kampung" program.
"Alhamdulillah, thank you very much for renovating this house. Hopefully, it will be even more comfortable here," he said.
The renovation of 52 houses in the first phase represents a concrete step toward implementing the 300 housing units allocated for Deli Serdang. The Deli Serdang Regency Government and Yayasan Buddha Tzu Chi Indonesia plan to continue the collaboration in stages.
The program also demonstrates a collaborative model between the government and various community stakeholders in addressing people's basic needs, particularly access to decent housing. Through support from multiple sources, the regional government is seeking to expand the reach of housing improvement efforts so that more families can benefit from better living conditions.
For the Deli Serdang Regency Government, the collaboration is also part of its support for the three-million-housing program. For the beneficiary residents, however, the renovation of their homes brings hope for a more comfortable and decent place to live.
The launch at Perumahan Nelayan Asri marks the beginning of the first renovation phase involving 52 houses. The regional government hopes the construction work will be completed on schedule and contribute to the development of a residential area that provides immediate benefits for the people of Pantai Labu.
