MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - North Sumatra Governor Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution is pushing for the accelerated provision of adequate housing for residents through cooperation with the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas. The North Sumatra Provincial Government considers both housing needs and settlement planning to require serious attention so that residents can gain access to safe, healthy, and adequate homes.
The cooperation between the North Sumatra Provincial Government and the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas, commonly known as the Ministry of PKP, covers several housing and settlement development programs. The programs focus not only on providing homes for residents but also on improving settlement areas, providing permanent housing for disaster-affected communities, and meeting housing needs in various parts of North Sumatra.
Bobby Nasution made the statement when he received a delegation from the Ministry of PKP at the Tengku Rizal Nurdin Hall on Friday, September 18, 2026. During the meeting, both sides discussed several housing programs scheduled for implementation in North Sumatra throughout 2026.
"We naturally place great hope in the full implementation of these programs in North Sumatra because housing needs and settlement planning in our region require urgent attention," Bobby Nasution said during the meeting with the Ministry of PKP delegation on Friday, September 18, 2026.
The Ministry of PKP has prepared eight main programs for 2026 to provide adequate housing and improve settlement areas in North Sumatra. The programs include house renovation, apartment construction, upgrading slum and problematic settlements, sanitation improvements, and the provision of public infrastructure, facilities, and utilities, known as PSU.
The government is also implementing a permanent housing program for people affected by disasters. Two housing financing programs, the Housing Liquidity Financing Facility (FLPP) and the Housing Program Credit (KPP), are also included in the agenda for providing housing in North Sumatra.
The various programs target different groups. Together, however, they aim to improve public access to adequate housing while enhancing the quality of settlement environments.
Bobby Nasution expressed hope that all programs prepared by the Ministry of PKP in North Sumatra could be implemented optimally. In his view, the public's need for adequate housing goes hand in hand with the government's responsibility to organize settlement areas more systematically and equip them with sufficient supporting infrastructure.
The North Sumatra governor also emphasized that implementing housing programs requires cross-sectoral coordination. The regional government cannot handle the task alone because housing and settlement development involves land ownership, financing, infrastructure, developers, and the needs of residents.
For this reason, Bobby Nasution emphasized the importance of closer communication between the North Sumatra Provincial Government and the Ministry of PKP. At the same time, he opened the way for broader cooperation with various stakeholders, including property developer organizations that play an important role in the housing sector.
According to Bobby, intensive communication can help the government find solutions to various challenges in providing housing and developing settlement areas. Effective coordination is also expected to accelerate program implementation so residents can benefit from the initiatives as quickly as possible.
"Of course, there are many challenges in providing housing and developing settlement areas. We need strong communication and synergy, and we must work together to find solutions. I hope our communication will become even more intensive so that we can resolve the problems ahead and provide adequate housing for the people," Bobby Nasution said.
Bobby stressed that meeting the public's housing needs must be a shared priority. In addition to providing homes, the government must ensure that residential areas offer an environment that supports residents' daily lives.
Settlement planning is an important part of these efforts. The government must consider the availability of sanitation facilities, infrastructure, amenities, and public utilities. Housing development therefore should not be measured solely by the number of houses constructed but must also take into account the quality of the surrounding residential environment.
Cooperation with developer organizations is also part of the effort to expand program implementation. Better communication among the government, ministries, financial institutions, and developers is expected to help identify the various needs of the housing sector and address them more effectively.
Teddy Paul H. Siagian, Special Adviser for Land Affairs and Spatial Planning at the Ministry of PKP, said the ministry had allocated around Rp1.5 trillion for various housing and settlement programs in North Sumatra in 2026.
The budget will support the implementation of the various programs prepared by the government. Teddy expressed hope that the central government, the North Sumatra Provincial Government, and various stakeholders could work together to implement the programs so that the objectives of settlement development and meeting housing needs could be achieved.
"Our shared hope is, of course, that we can jointly implement the programs for 2026. The main objective is to develop settlement areas while at the same time meeting housing supply and demand," Teddy said.
Teddy explained that settlement development and meeting housing needs are the main objectives of the Ministry of PKP's programs in North Sumatra. The government must also create a balance between public housing needs and the availability of affordable housing.
The FLPP and KPP programs are part of efforts to expand access to housing financing. Meanwhile, house renovation programs, apartment construction, sanitation improvements, PSU provision, and the upgrading of problematic settlements address physical infrastructure and the quality of the residential environment.
The permanent housing program for disaster-affected communities also plays an important role in supporting people who need accommodation following disasters. The government can implement these programs in a targeted manner to ensure that affected residents receive safer and more adequate housing.
The meeting between the North Sumatra Provincial Government and the Ministry of PKP was also attended by various stakeholders from the housing and regional development sectors. Their participation was part of the coordination efforts to support the implementation of housing programs in North Sumatra.
Those in attendance included the Head of the North Sumatra P3KP Center, Rizaldi Andi Atjo; Head of the North Sumatra PKP Working Unit, Heri Sukarmanto; President Director of Bank Sumut, Heru Mardiansyah; Acting Regional Secretary of North Sumatra Province, Timur Tumanggor; Chairman of Apersi North Sumatra, HM Yulius; and Chairman of REI North Sumatra, Rakutta Karo-karo.
Through this cooperation, the North Sumatra Provincial Government and the Ministry of PKP seek to strengthen the implementation of housing programs in 2026. The regional government hopes that budgetary support and cross-sectoral cooperation will accelerate the provision of adequate housing while promoting better settlement development for the people of North Sumatra.
