CHINESE INVESTORS RECEIVED: Deli Serdang Regent dr. H. Asri Ludin Tambunan and Deputy Regent Lom Lom Suwondo receive Chinese investors exploring the development of a recycling industry and electronic waste processing in Deli Serdang, Friday, September 18, 2026.

DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - Investors from China are exploring opportunities to develop a recycling industry in Deli Serdang Regency, including plans to process electronic waste into products with economic value. The proposed investment was discussed during a meeting with Deli Serdang Regent dr. H. Asri Ludin Tambunan and Deputy Regent Lom Lom Suwondo, SS, on Friday, September 18, 2026.

The meeting discussed investment opportunities in the industrial sector as well as the potential for developing businesses that could contribute to the regional economy. One area receiving particular attention from the investors is the recycling industry. Under the proposed plan, electronic waste would be used as raw material, processed and converted into products with added value.

Deli Serdang Regent Asri Ludin Tambunan said the region he leads has significant potential for industrial development. This potential is supported by Deli Serdang's position as an important buffer region, its large territory and its existing transportation infrastructure, which facilitates the movement of goods and economic activities.

The Deli Serdang Regency Government, Asri Ludin Tambunan said, is ready to provide facilitation within the framework of applicable regulations so that incoming investments can deliver benefits to the region and the community as quickly as possible.

"Deli Serdang continues to open opportunities for investments that directly benefit the people. This includes exploring the development of a recycling industry together with investors from China," the regent said.

Investment Expected to Create Jobs

Asri Ludin Tambunan emphasized that the Deli Serdang Regency Government does not assess investments solely based on the amount of capital involved, but also considers their impact on the community. The establishment of new industrial facilities is expected to create jobs while stimulating economic activity across various sectors.

He said investment opportunities capable of absorbing a large workforce should be utilized while continuing to comply with applicable regulations. The regional government also has an interest in ensuring that industrial activities are conducted in accordance with legal requirements and provide benefits to communities in surrounding areas.

"We must make the most of the opportunity to create thousands of jobs and stimulate the regional economy, while continuing to comply with existing regulations," he emphasized.

The Deli Serdang Regency Government is also continuing to promote an investment climate that supports business growth. Facilitation for investors remains subject to established procedures and legal provisions so that investment activities can develop in an orderly manner.

The planned development of the recycling industry is viewed as an opportunity that could generate multiple benefits. In addition to creating new economic activities, the processing of electronic waste could contribute to waste reuse and the production of goods with additional economic value.

Deli Serdang Has Strong Industrial Base

Deli Serdang Deputy Regent Lom Lom Suwondo said the regency has a relatively strong industrial base. More than 400 factories are currently operating in the region.

The presence of hundreds of factories demonstrates that Deli Serdang has an industrial ecosystem that continues to develop. Combined with the size of the region and its transportation infrastructure, this creates opportunities for investors to develop various business sectors.

"Your presence is an opportunity for industrial growth in Deli Serdang and can help expand access to employment opportunities while strengthening the economy of the people and the region," he said.

Lom Lom said the Deli Serdang Regency Government remains open to the development of industries capable of creating additional employment opportunities. The regional government is also encouraging investments that can contribute to increased economic activity among the community.

In connection with the development of a recycling industry, this potential is also linked to the growing need for better waste management. Processing electronic waste into economically valuable products could become part of an industrial development model that combines economic interests with environmental protection.

INTEREST IN RECYCLING PROJECTS: Investor spokesperson Siswanto explains plans to develop several recycling projects, including electronic waste processing. One of the projects is expected to create approximately 5,000 to 10,000 jobs. (PHOTO: Edi Saputra)

Investors Focus on Electronic Waste Recycling

Investor group spokesperson Siswanto said the investors see several factors that make Deli Serdang an attractive location for developing their business activities. In addition to the region's potential and transportation infrastructure, the investors are also considering the commitment of the Deli Serdang Regency Government to supporting investment activities.

Siswanto explained that the investors had already prepared several project plans, with a significant portion focused on the recycling sector. One of the main areas under discussion is the processing of electronic waste so that it does not simply end up as waste but can instead be transformed into products with economic value.

"There are many projects to be implemented. Most of them focus on recycling. They want to process electronic waste and turn it into something valuable," he explained.

According to Siswanto, the development of this industry could have a significant impact on employment. One of the planned factory projects is expected to create approximately 5,000 to 10,000 jobs.

The high demand for workers is related to the planned production system, which is expected to rely significantly on human labor during operations. If the investment proceeds, the planned industry could therefore create numerous employment opportunities for the local population.

In addition to employment considerations, the investors are also taking into account the region's accessibility and transportation infrastructure when selecting a location. Deli Serdang has a strategic position connecting various areas and supporting industrial distribution and mobility.

"In addition to the land and transportation infrastructure, the investors are interested in Deli Serdang because of the commitment shown by the regent and deputy regent in facilitating investment," he added.

The exploration of investment opportunities is part of the Deli Serdang Regency Government's efforts to attract new investment while continuing to promote industrial growth in the region. The regional government will process the investment plans in accordance with applicable regulations to ensure that every business activity is properly conducted and benefits the community.

The meeting was also attended by Head of the Deli Serdang Planning and Development Agency Yetti Sembiring; Head of the Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Office Rio Laka Dewa; Acting Head of the Environmental Agency Faisal Rahman; Head of the Manpower Office Syahdin Seria Budi Pane; Head of the Public Works, Spatial Planning and Land Affairs Office Rachmadsyah; Head of the Communication, Informatics, Statistics and Encryption Office Sandra Dewi Situmorang; as well as Leo Widjaja, Guan Xijin, Zhang Kai and representative of the Chinese-Indonesian community Ali Johnsen.

The presence of government officials and other stakeholders reflects cross-sectoral involvement in discussions concerning investment opportunities. Should the industrial development move to the next stage, the Deli Serdang Regency Government will need to ensure that licensing, environmental considerations, employment, spatial planning and other necessary support measures comply with applicable regulations.

With its industrial potential, transportation infrastructure and available workforce, Deli Serdang continues to offer opportunities for investment development. The exploration of a recycling industry with investors from China is one such opportunity, aimed at strengthening economic activity while expanding employment opportunities for people in the region.
