NIAS UTARA | INDATANEWS.COM - The concerning condition of SMP Negeri 4 Sitolu Ori in Nias Utara Regency has drawn special attention from the Governor of North Sumatra, Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution. After directly witnessing the school's limited educational facilities, Bobby Nasution allocated Provincial Financial Assistance (Bantuan Keuangan Provinsi/BKP) amounting to Rp1.6 billion for the construction of a new school building.
The school, located in the Nias Islands region, had previously faced serious challenges due to inadequate infrastructure and limited educational facilities. Three classrooms and a teachers' room, which also functioned as the principal's office and meeting room, were still made of wooden materials and had dirt floors.The Principal of SMP Negeri 4 Sitolu Ori, Teti Gea, said these conditions had long created challenges for teachers and students in carrying out the learning process. The limited facilities forced educational activities to continue in an environment far from the standards of an ideal learning space.
Teti Gea explained that SMP Negeri 4 Sitolu Ori had not yet received adequate supporting educational facilities. In addition to limited classrooms, the school also lacked a laboratory and a stable internet network that could support the needs of modern education.
"The toilets are in very poor condition, there is no laboratory, and the internet network is still inadequate. We also need laptops for students so they can later take academic competency tests," Teti said.She expressed hope that improvements to school infrastructure would bring major changes for students and teachers. A better learning environment, she said, would increase comfort while improving the quality of education at the school.
The condition of SMP Negeri 4 Sitolu Ori also received serious attention from Bobby Nasution during his second visit to the school. During the inspection, the Governor of North Sumatra directly reviewed the school facilities, which were still far from the standards of a proper educational institution.
Bobby Nasution did not stop at observing the situation on site but immediately took steps to improve the school's condition. Since August 4, 2026, the North Sumatra Provincial Government, through Provincial Financial Assistance (BKP), has started constructing a new building for SMP Negeri 4 Sitolu Ori with a budget of Rp1.6 billion.
During his inspection, Bobby Nasution expressed concern after seeing the condition of the facilities used by students and teachers. His attention to the limited learning environment at the school was clearly visible during the visit.The construction of the new school building reflects the commitment of the North Sumatra Provincial Government to expanding equal access to quality education, particularly in the Nias Utara region. The new facilities are expected to provide a safe, comfortable, and supportive learning environment that will encourage students' development.
"We, all the teachers here, can hardly find the right words. We would like to express our deepest gratitude. Hopefully, students and teachers here can learn and teach comfortably in the future," Teti said.
With the construction of the new school building, SMP Negeri 4 Sitolu Ori hopes students will soon be able to participate in learning activities with more adequate facilities. Teachers are also optimistic that an improved school environment will create new motivation for daily teaching and learning activities.The attention given to SMP Negeri 4 Sitolu Ori represents another step toward strengthening equal educational access in North Sumatra.
