Kemenko Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections Reviews Batam Prison Readiness

BATAM | INDATANEWS.COM - The Coordinating Ministry for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections reviewed the readiness of Batam Class IIA Correctional Facility in addressing various challenges within the correctional system. The working visit was held on Thursday, August 6, 2026, and was led by Deputy Minister for Immigration and Corrections, I Nyoman Gde Surya Mataram.

During the visit, the Deputy Minister for Immigration and Corrections was accompanied by Deputy Assistant for Administration and Governance in the Corrections Sector Jumadi, Head of the Administrative Unit of the Inspectorate of the Coordinating Ministry for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections Kyata Rulina, Assistant to the Deputy Minister for Immigration and Corrections Adam Firdaus, and Assistant to the Deputy Assistant for Administration and Governance in the Corrections Sector Ibnu Hibatul.

The delegation from the Coordinating Ministry for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections was welcomed by Head of the Administration Subdivision of Batam Class IIA Correctional Facility, Anto Eka Purwadi, representing Head of Batam Correctional Facility Yosafat Rizanto. He was accompanied by the facility's officials and responsible officers.

The working visit was part of a coordination and strengthening effort for correctional administration, particularly to ensure that Batam Correctional Facility personnel carry out their duties and functions in accordance with government policies in the fields of law, human rights, immigration and corrections.

Addressing Overstaying Detention Periods Becomes Key Discussion

During the visit, representatives from the Coordinating Ministry for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections discussed the handling of cases involving inmates who exceed their designated detention periods, as well as the preparedness of correctional management. This issue is considered important because accurate data management and proper administrative procedures play a significant role in ensuring an orderly and accountable correctional service.

Deputy Minister for Immigration and Corrections I Nyoman Gde Surya Mataram emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination between relevant authorities and ensuring accuracy among officers in managing inmate data. According to him, proper administrative management is a crucial measure to prevent detention period violations.

In addition to addressing detention period issues, the ministry's delegation also reviewed the readiness of Batam Correctional Facility personnel in implementing the new Criminal Code (KUHP).

All correctional officers are encouraged to understand the main substance of the new regulations so that the provisions can be properly implemented in daily operations. Understanding legal changes is an important aspect of maintaining service quality and ensuring a correctional system that complies with applicable legal principles.

Head of the Administration Subdivision of Batam Class IIA Correctional Facility Anto Eka Purwadi expressed his appreciation for the working visit, as well as the guidance and recommendations provided by representatives of the Coordinating Ministry for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections.

"These recommendations are important support for all personnel to continue improving professionalism, service quality and readiness in responding to various policy changes in the correctional sector," Anto said.

Anto explained that the recommendations received would motivate Batam Correctional Facility personnel to continue evaluating and improving the implementation of their duties. He considered stronger coordination with relevant ministries an important element in responding to dynamic developments and changes in correctional policies.
