MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution has called on all telecommunications providers to work together with the provincial government to eliminate so-called blank spot areas and accelerate equal access to internet and communication services, particularly in remote regions.
The appeal was made during an audience with PT Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison held at the Tengku Rizal Nurdin Hall, Governor's Residence in Medan, on Thursday, June 4, 2026.
Bobby emphasized that comprehensive telecommunications coverage is a fundamental requirement for regional development and improved public welfare, especially in underserved areas.
He stressed that collaboration with telecom operators is essential to reduce connectivity gaps, starting with the Nias Islands cluster.
"Therefore, we invite telecommunications providers to work with us in overcoming blank spot areas, starting from the Nias Islands," Bobby said.

Strengthening Digital Education from an Early Stage
Beyond infrastructure development, the governor also highlighted the importance of strengthening digital literacy across all levels of education. He proposed closer cooperation with telecom companies to integrate digital learning programs from elementary to high school levels.
"In terms of digital competence, we can collaborate at the school level, both in primary, junior high, and senior high schools," he explained.
Bobby also underlined the need to equip young people with responsible and productive digital habits amid rapid technological advancement.
Supporting International-Scale Events
The governor further invited the telecommunications sector to support major national and international events in North Sumatra, including the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) 2026.
He noted that stable digital infrastructure is a key factor in ensuring the success of such events while also enhancing the region's global image.

Head of Circle Sumatra at PT Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, Agus Sulistio, stated that the company's vision aligns with the provincial government's development goals. Indosat is committed to expanding network coverage and strengthening nationwide connectivity.
