JAMBI | INDATANEWS.COM - The Presisi Merdeka Run 2026 in Jambi attracted around 12,000 participants and visitors from various regions. The national sporting event, held on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Garuda Square in front of the Jambi Governor's Office, also provided a significant boost to the development of sports tourism in Jambi Province.
The enthusiasm of the participants was evident from early morning as thousands of runners took part in the 21K, 10K, and 5K categories. Participants came not only from Jambi Province but also from various parts of Indonesia, including East Kalimantan, Bandung, and West Sumatra.Jambi Police Chief Inspector General of Police Krisno H. Siregar said the large number of participants from outside the region demonstrated the strong appeal of the Presisi Merdeka Run. In his view, the event could serve as a platform for bringing together the public and sports communities while creating opportunities to develop sports tourism in Jambi.
"This shows that the Presisi Merdeka Run has a strong appeal and can become an event that brings people and sports communities from various regions together. In the future, we will continue to hold this event and hope it can become an annual event in Jambi Province," he said.Thousands of participants and visitors subsequently filled the area around Garuda Square at the Jambi Governor's Office. In addition to taking part in the race, visitors enjoyed various entertainment programs presented by the organizers as part of the event.
Among those attending were Jambi Governor Dr. H. Al Haris, S.Sos., M.H.; Chairman of the Jambi Regional House of Representatives M. Hafiz Fattah; Jambi Police Chief Inspector General of Police Krisno H. Siregar, S.I.K., M.H.; Commander of Military District 042/Gapu Brigadier General of the Indonesian Army (TNI) Nyamin, S.I.P., M.M.; Jambi Chief Prosecutor Sugeng Hariadi, S.H., M.H.; and Chief Judge of the Jambi High Court, Y.M. Dr. Marsudin Nainggolan, S.H., M.H. Representatives of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) and numerous heads of vertical government agencies were also present.Also in attendance were Jambi State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Chief Air Vice Marshal of the Indonesian Air Force (TNI) Marsma TNI Dwiana Pilihanto, S.T., M.M.; Head of the Jambi Provincial National Narcotics Agency (BNNP Jambi) Brigadier General of Police Asep Saepudin, S.I.K.; Jambi Deputy Police Chief Brigadier General of Police Benny Ali, S.I.K., S.H.; mayors and regents from across Jambi Province or their representatives; senior Jambi Police officials (PJU); heads of provincial government agencies (OPD); VVIP guests of PMR 2026; as well as residents and participants from various regions.
After all categories completed the competition, the organizers announced the fastest male and female runners in the 21K, 10K, and 5K categories. The winners received medals and prize money.The festive atmosphere of PMR 2026 continued with a performance by Jakarta-based singer Marcello Tahitoe, better known as Ello. Before the event concluded, the organizers also held a prize draw. The event ended with a musical performance by Silet Open Up, also known as SOU.
The Jambi Police Chief expressed his appreciation to all parties who supported the implementation of the Presisi Merdeka Run 2026. He also said the event had proceeded safely and orderly."Alhamdulillah, throughout the event, no participant had to be taken to hospital. Overall, the event ran smoothly, safely, and orderly," the Jambi Police Chief said.
In addition to participants from Jambi, people from East Kalimantan, Bandung, West Sumatra, and various other cities also took part in the event.
"This shows that the Presisi Merdeka Run has a strong appeal and can become an event that brings people and sports communities from various regions together. In the future, we will continue to hold this event and hope it can become an annual event in Jambi Province," he said.The police chief also highlighted the strong enthusiasm among Jambi's younger generation. He expressed hope that greater participation by young people in sporting activities could continue to grow through sustained support and development programs.
"We are proud to see the enthusiasm and dedication of Jambi's young talents. With proper and continuous development, I am confident that Jambi's young people can grow into a better and more capable generation," he said.According to Krisno, the Presisi Merdeka Run was not merely a sporting competition. The event also represented the presence of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) within the community by bringing together people from different social groups.
"The Presisi Merdeka Run is not only a sporting event, but also a form of Polri's presence within the community. The success of this event is, of course, inseparable from the support of all parties, particularly the Jambi Provincial Government, the organizers, communities, participants, and the entire public," he said.
The Jambi Police Chief considers the Presisi Merdeka Run an example of an event that can help establish Jambi as a sports tourism destination. The presence of thousands of participants from various regions could also have a broad impact on economic activity among local residents.
In his view, the arrival of sports communities from other regions provides local businesses with opportunities to benefit economically from the event. Participants traveling to Jambi do not only take part in the competition but also require a range of services during their stay."From an economic perspective, events like this also have a positive impact on the community, particularly in Jambi City. The concept of sports tourism creates opportunities for residents and local businesses because sports communities from various regions will look for events and competitions organized in our region," the police chief said.
Krisno also viewed the successful staging of PMR 2026 as evidence that Jambi Province is capable of hosting national-level sporting events. He expressed hope that the success would encourage the organization of more similar events in the future."This is something we can all be proud of. Jambi Province has demonstrated that we are capable of hosting an event at the national level. Hopefully, this event can have a positive impact and help further advance Jambi in the future," he said.
As one of the event's initiators, the police chief called on the public to work together to create the conditions necessary for Jambi to host various national events in the future. He emphasized the importance of safety and comfort as part of the region's appeal."I appeal to the entire community that Jambi must be ready to host various national events. We must show that Jambi is a safe and comfortable region, ready to welcome people from different parts of the country," he stressed.
Krisno also apologized to residents if the implementation of PMR 2026 had disrupted their daily activities, particularly due to traffic arrangements and the use of the race routes."I would like to apologize to the public if there were any disruptions to daily activities during the event, particularly those related to the arrangements and use of the race routes. We also thank the public, including street vendors, for their understanding and cooperation throughout the event," he said.
Concluding his statement, the Jambi Police Chief expressed his appreciation to all Jambi Police personnel, organizers, field officers, communities, participants, the regional government, and the public who supported the implementation of PMR 2026."I thank all Jambi Police personnel, the organizers, field officers, and everyone involved who worked hard to prepare and carry out this event so that it could run well, safely, and smoothly. With around 12,000 participants and visitors, the Presisi Merdeka Run 2026 became one of Jambi's major sporting events, bringing together people and sports communities from various regions.
