JAMBI | INDATANEWS.COM - Police at Polsek Jambi Selatan have arrested S, 56, who is suspected of carrying out an acid attack that resulted in the death of a woman. The man, who lives in Jambi Selatan District, Jambi City, was arrested on Thursday night, September 24, 2026, at around 9:30 p.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB).

In investigating the case, the Polsek Jambi Selatan Criminal Investigation Unit was assisted by the Resmob Unit of the Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Jambi Regional Police (Polda Jambi), the Jatanras Unit of the Jambi City Police (Polresta Jambi), and the Identification Unit of Polresta Jambi. The joint team arrested the suspect in the Talang Bakung area, Paal Merah District, without resistance.

Jambi Police Chief Kombes Pol Ananto Herlambang, through Polsek Jambi Selatan Chief AKP Taroni Zebua, said the case investigation was part of the police's commitment to ensuring justice for the victim and her family.

Suspect Arrested in Talang Bakung

The acid attack occurred on Saturday night, August 15, 2026, in Paal Merah District, Jambi City. The victim subsequently went to the home of her biological sister in critical condition. She had suffered severe burns after being doused with a dangerous chemical liquid.

The woman sustained serious injuries to her face, both eyes, and shoulder. She also suffered severe burns that produced a strong, pungent odor.

"The victim arrived with a reddened face, blisters on both eyes and a blister on her right shoulder, accompanied by a strong odor. The victim's sister, who later filed the report, immediately took her to Mitra Hospital. She was then referred to RSU Raden Mattaher Jambi for intensive treatment. However, her life could not be saved," said the chief of Polsek Jambi Selatan.

The family initially took the victim to Mitra Hospital for emergency medical treatment. Because she required further medical intervention, she was subsequently referred to RSU Raden Mattaher Jambi.

Despite receiving medical treatment, the woman's life could not be saved. She eventually died from the severe injuries she sustained in the attack.

After receiving the report, the Polsek Jambi Selatan Criminal Investigation Unit, together with the joint investigative team, immediately launched an investigation. Officers examined the crime scene, collected forensic evidence, questioned witnesses, and gathered various pieces of information to identify the suspect.

The intensive investigation eventually led police to S. Investigators traced his whereabouts to the Talang Bakung area.

The joint team then went to the location and arrested S on Thursday night, September 24, 2026, at around 9:30 p.m. The suspect did not resist during the arrest.

Suspected Motive: Jealousy and Hurt Feelings

During the initial interrogation, investigators focused, among other things, on the possible motive behind the attack. Based on preliminary findings, police suspect that relationship problems and hurt feelings may have been behind the incident.

The suspect is alleged to have been jealous and unable to accept the victim distancing herself from him and refusing to maintain further contact. Police suspect the situation prompted him to douse the victim with a corrosive liquid.

Investigators are continuing to examine the entire sequence of events to establish the exact circumstances and motive behind the attack based on the evidence collected and statements obtained during the investigation.

Following his arrest, S was taken to Polsek Jambi Selatan for further questioning. Investigators also seized several items believed to be connected to the case.

The seized evidence included a dark blue jacket, a Yamaha Mio Soul motorcycle allegedly used as a means of transportation, and a pair of green-and-white Swallow sandals.

Police also secured the victim's pink GM helmet, black T-shirt, red trousers, and black underwear.

In addition, a death certificate and a Visum et Repertum medical report were secured as part of the evidence for the investigation.
