BATAM | INDATANEWS.COM - A Malaysian correctional delegation has visited Batam Prison to strengthen bilateral cooperation and exchange best practices in the field of corrections and rehabilitation.
The visit, held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, brought together officials from the Malaysian Prison Department (Jabatan Penjara Malaysia) and several Indonesian correctional technical implementation units (UPT) in Batam. The program aimed to deepen professional collaboration and share knowledge on inmate management, security systems, and rehabilitation initiatives.Strengthening Bilateral Correctional Cooperation

During the program, the delegation visited several correctional facilities in Batam, including Batam Prison (Lapas Batam), one of the region's key correctional institutions.
Head of Batam Prison, Yosafat Rizanto, presented a comprehensive overview of inmate development programs, emphasizing personal growth and self-reliance training."We are very pleased with the visit from the Malaysian Prison Department. Hopefully, this meeting will further strengthen the relationship between our two countries," said Yosafat Rizanto.

Following the presentation, the Malaysian delegation toured the facilities and engaged directly with correctional officers to understand operational procedures and daily practices.Malaysian delegation representative Vinodh Elamkovam expressed hope that the insights gained during the visit could be applied within Malaysia's correctional system in the future.
