BATAM | INDATANEWS.COM – On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, the Indonesian government carried out a population administration service at Batam Prison, providing identity data management for both detainees and convicted inmates.
The initiative follows an official directive from the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration under the Ministry of Home Affairs. The program aims to ensure that all citizens, including those in correctional facilities, receive full access to their civil registration rights.

The local Population and Civil Registration Office (Disdukcapil) implemented a "mobile service" approach, bringing administrative services directly into the detention facility. The on-site process included National Identification Number (NIK) verification, biometric data collection, and comprehensive data matching.Disdukcapil officers worked closely with prison authorities and detention staff to ensure the process ran in an orderly, accurate, and efficient manner.

The initiative was also conducted in response to a request from the Directorate General of Corrections. It is designed to accelerate access to public services, particularly healthcare coverage.
With verified NIK data, inmates are expected to gain easier access to government-supported health insurance programs, including the Contribution Assistance Beneficiary (PBI) scheme.
Strong Coordination Between Prison and Disdukcapil
Batam Prison Chief Yosafat Rizanto expressed full support for the program, emphasizing that all data collection activities were conducted directly within the facility to ensure no inmate was left behind."We strongly welcome this initiative as it helps inmates secure their population administration rights. Through verification and biometric recording, we ensure that no one is excluded from public services due to incomplete data," Yosafat said.
He also highlighted that close coordination between prison officers and Disdukcapil is key to the program's success. The collaborative effort ensures accurate, secure, and complete data collection for all participants.The implementation ran smoothly, with all eligible inmates successfully registered, updated, and validated.
