Batam Prison Conducts Major Raid, Seizes Prohibited Items

CELL SEARCH OPERATION: Joint personnel from Batam Prison, the Koramil military unit, Sagulung Police, and Batam BNN conduct a large-scale raid inside inmate cells to seize prohibited items and strengthen prison security.

BATAM | INDATANEWS.COM Batam Class IIA Prison conducted a large-scale raid on inmates' cells on Monday night, May 25, 2026, as part of intensified efforts to strengthen security and maintain order inside the correctional facility.

The operation was aimed at preventing drug trafficking and cracking down on the use of illegal mobile phones within the prison.

The inspection began at 8:00 p.m. WIB and continued until 10:30 p.m. WIB. The raid was led directly by Batam Class IIA Prison Head Yosafat Rizanto and involved joint personnel from the Koramil military unit, Sagulung Police Sector, and the Batam National Narcotics Agency (BNN).

The operation was also supported by the Satopspatnal special unit of the Riau Islands Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections, along with all officers of Batam Prison.

Joint Security Forces Strengthen Coordination

Before the raid began, all participating personnel attended a joint roll call led by Yosafat Rizanto. During his briefing, he stressed the importance of strong coordination among institutions to ensure stability and security within the prison environment.

He also instructed officers to carry out the operation in accordance with established procedures while maintaining professionalism and a humane approach throughout the inspection process.

Intensive Cell Inspections Conducted

Following the assembly, the joint task force launched an intensive search across several inmate cells. Officers thoroughly inspected every section of the rooms to detect prohibited items and prevent contraband from entering the correctional facility.

Firm Commitment Against Drugs and Illegal Phones

Yosafat Rizanto stated that the simultaneous raid reflected the correctional institution's commitment to implementing the programs of the Minister of Immigration and Corrections as well as directives from the Directorate General of Corrections.

"We appreciate the support and strong cooperation from all participating institutions. Through solid collaboration, we believe efforts to maintain security and order at Batam Prison can be carried out more effectively," Yosafat Rizanto said.
