North Sumatra Correctional Office Strengthens Synergy, Launches Smart Zero Waste and SIPINTAR Dashboard

MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections (Kanwil Ditjenpas) of North Sumatra has strengthened collaboration with various strategic partners through the signing of cooperation agreements (PKS). The agreements were signed on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Medan Class I Correctional Facility. At the same event, Kanwil Ditjenpas North Sumatra officially introduced the Smart Zero Waste Pemasyarakatan program and the SIPINTAR Dashboard. Both initiatives are part of efforts to accelerate the transformation of correctional services through innovative, technology-based, and sustainable solutions.

The event marked an important milestone for Kanwil Ditjenpas North Sumatra in expanding cross-sector collaboration. Through partnerships with various institutions and stakeholders, the office aims to improve the quality of correctional services, strengthen inmate rehabilitation and development programs, and establish more effective and accountable management systems.

From the beginning of the event, a festive atmosphere was evident. Female inmates from Medan Class IIA Women's Correctional Facility welcomed the Head of Kanwil Ditjenpas North Sumatra and invited guests with a traditional welcoming dance. The performance also reflected the achievements of educational and rehabilitation programs implemented within the correctional system.

Driving Transformation in Correctional Services

The Head of the Administration and General Affairs Division of Kanwil Ditjenpas North Sumatra, Bejo, expressed his appreciation for the support provided by all partners in implementing the Smart Zero Waste Pemasyarakatan program and developing the SIPINTAR Dashboard.

According to him, this support serves as an important foundation for implementing sustainable environmental management, accelerating digital service transformation, and strengthening various rehabilitation programs for inmates.

In addition to developing vocational skills and improving service quality, Kanwil Ditjenpas North Sumatra continues to prioritize spiritual development through the Cahaya di Balik Jeruji program. The initiative aims to strengthen inmates' character and prepare them for successful reintegration into society after completing their sentences.

During the event, Kanwil Ditjenpas North Sumatra, Medan Class I Correctional Facility, Medan Class IIA Women's Correctional Facility, and several strategic partners signed a number of cooperation agreements. The participating partners included universities, government institutions, healthcare providers, and private-sector companies.

The collaboration covers various areas supporting correctional responsibilities, including improving the quality of rehabilitation programs, strengthening healthcare services, developing human resources, and expanding empowerment and support programs for inmates.

As a symbol of shared commitment to environmental protection, event participants also handed over tree seedlings. The symbolic activity represented collective awareness to promote environmentally friendly and sustainable development within the correctional sector.

Collaboration as the Key to Correctional Progress

The Head of Kanwil Ditjenpas North Sumatra, Jalu Yuswa Panjang, stated that the cooperation established through these agreements would strengthen inmate rehabilitation programs while improving the overall quality of correctional services.

He emphasized that synergy with various stakeholders is an important solution to addressing challenges faced by correctional facilities and state detention centers across North Sumatra, particularly the issue of overcrowding.

"Collaboration is the key to building a more modern and effective correctional system. Through these agreements, we hope every partner can contribute to improving inmate guidance and services. The introduction of Smart Zero Waste Pemasyarakatan and the SIPINTAR Dashboard is a concrete step toward a more innovative, sustainable, and technology-oriented transformation of corrections, creating professional, accountable, and socially beneficial services," said Jalu Yuswa Panjang.

Jalu added that successful inmate rehabilitation cannot be achieved solely by correctional institutions. Support from various sectors, including government, academia, business, and the community, plays a crucial role in building a higher-quality correctional system with broader social impacts.

Smart Zero Waste and SIPINTAR Strengthen Digital Management

As the highlight of the event, the Head of Kanwil Ditjenpas North Sumatra, together with the heads of technical implementation units, officially launched the Smart Zero Waste Pemasyarakatan program and the SIPINTAR Dashboard.

Smart Zero Waste Pemasyarakatan was developed as an innovation to encourage more effective waste management, increase environmental awareness, and optimize sustainable resource utilization within correctional facilities.

Meanwhile, the SIPINTAR Dashboard functions as a digital platform supporting reporting, monitoring, and integrated data management. The system is expected to improve administrative efficiency, accelerate decision-making processes, and enhance transparency and accountability in correctional services throughout North Sumatra.

By strengthening partnerships with various stakeholders and implementing technology-driven innovations, Kanwil Ditjenpas North Sumatra demonstrates its commitment to building a modern, adaptive, and professional correctional system focused on delivering high-quality public services.
