MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The Mobile Brigade Unit (Brimob) of the North Sumatra Regional Police (Polda Sumut) deployed dozens of specially trained personnel to respond to a house explosion at Jalan Perhubungan, Grand Polonia Complex No. 3B, Sukadamai Subdistrict, Medan Polonia District, on Monday, July 20, 2026.
The deployment of the special forces was carried out following coordination between the Brimob Unit of Polda Sumut and the Medan City Police (Polrestabes Medan) to handle the incident, which had raised concerns among local residents regarding their safety.The Commander of the Brimob Unit of Polda Sumut, Kombes Pol. M. Rendra Salipu, S.I.K., M.Si., ordered several specialized teams to be dispatched to the scene. The deployed personnel included the Bomb Disposal Team (Jibom), the Chemical, Biological, and Radioactive Hazard Team (KBR) from the Gegana Unit, as well as the Search and Rescue (SAR) Team from Battalion A Pelopor.
In addition to securing the area, the KBR Team from the Gegana Unit conducted examinations to detect possible exposure to hazardous substances that could endanger officers or residents in the surrounding area.
Meanwhile, the SAR Team from Battalion A Pelopor, together with personnel from various agencies, assisted in searching for and evacuating possible victims. All Brimob personnel carried out their duties in accordance with established operational procedures to ensure a rapid, safe, and professional emergency response.The deployment of these specially trained personnel is part of the police's rapid response efforts in handling high-risk incidents, particularly those involving hazardous materials and public safety concerns.
In handling the explosion, the Brimob Unit of Polda Sumut worked closely with Polrestabes Medan, the Fire and Rescue Agency, medical teams, and other relevant institutions.
The inter-agency cooperation was conducted to secure the scene, assist in victim evacuation efforts, and support the police investigation into the incident.Kombes Pol. M. Rendra Salipu stated that the deployment of special forces represented Brimob's operational readiness to provide maximum support in situations that could potentially endanger the public.
"We deployed dozens of personnel from the Jibom and KBR Teams of the Gegana Unit, as well as the SAR Team from Battalion A Pelopor, to support the response measures at the explosion site. All personnel are carrying out their duties according to their respective roles and functions to ensure site security, assist evacuation efforts, and support the police investigation," said Kombes Pol. M. Rendra Salipu.
The police are currently conducting further investigations to determine the exact cause of the explosion at the residential house. The joint response team is carrying out various examinations and collecting information to uncover the circumstances behind the incident.
The Brimob Unit of Polda Sumut has assured that it will continue supporting Polrestabes Medan and relevant authorities until all procedures are completed. Police personnel are also ensuring that conditions around the location remain safe and under control throughout the investigation process.Through the deployment of special personnel, Brimob Polda Sumut has demonstrated its readiness to handle various emergency situations and provide the community with fast, targeted, and professional services.
