MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM – The Medan District Court Prosecutor's Office has demanded a three-year prison sentence for defendant Titik Wulandari in a case involving the alleged misappropriation of a Toyota Avanza with registration number BK 1589 UB. The 48-year-old defendant is accused of initially renting the vehicle for a holiday before allegedly pawning it to an individual in Lubuk Pakam, Deli Serdang Regency, for five million rupiahs.
Prosecutor AP. Frianto Naibaho delivered the sentencing demand during the hearing held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Courtroom Cakra 6 of the Medan District Court. In his legal submission, the prosecutor stated that all elements of the criminal offense of misappropriation had been fulfilled, as outlined in the first alternative indictment under Article 486 of Indonesia's Criminal Code (KUHP).
"We request that the defendant Titik Wulandari be sentenced to three years in prison," Prosecutor AP. Frianto Naibaho told the panel of judges.
Following the reading of the prosecutor's demand, Titik Wulandari asked the panel of judges, led by Khamozaro Waruwu, to impose a lighter sentence. The resident of Stella Residence Complex, Block CC Number 06, Simpang Selayang Village, Medan Tuntungan District, stated that she still had two young children who required her care and attention.
"Your Honor, I request a lighter sentence because I still have two young children," Titik said during the hearing.
The panel of judges then stated that the defendant's request for leniency would be considered before the verdict was delivered.
After hearing the prosecutor's demand and the defendant's plea, the court adjourned the hearing. The Medan District Court scheduled the next hearing for Thursday, July 23, 2026, with the agenda of delivering the verdict.
The case began on Monday, March 16, 2026, at approximately 10:00 p.m. WIB (Western Indonesian Time). At that time, Titik Wulandari visited the residence of Erna Ervina Sinurat on Jalan Bunga Mawar XXI, Medan Selayang District, seeking to rent a vehicle for three days.
To Erna, Titik stated that she needed the vehicle for a holiday trip with her colleagues from March 17 to March 19, 2026. Following the request, Erna contacted the vehicle owner, Nelson Jerpis Jimmy Sagala.
After further discussions, Titik and Nelson agreed on a rental fee of 1.6 million rupiahs for a three-day rental period.
The previous day, Sunday, March 15, 2026, Titik had visited Erna's house and transferred a deposit of 250,000 rupiahs to Erna's account as confirmation of the reservation.
The following day, Monday, March 16, 2026, at around 6:00 p.m. WIB, Nelson delivered a Toyota Avanza bearing registration number BK 1589 UB to Erna's house. He also handed over the vehicle key and a replacement vehicle document in place of the registration certificate (STNK).
That same evening at approximately 8:30 p.m. WIB, Titik returned to Erna's house to pay the remaining rental balance of 1.35 million rupiahs through a bank transfer. Before taking the vehicle, Titik made a video call with Nelson to obtain direct approval from the owner. After Nelson gave his permission, Erna handed over the car key to Titik.
Instead of using the vehicle for the holiday as originally stated, Titik allegedly took the rental car to Lubuk Pakam, Deli Serdang Regency.
There, she met Sugito, also known as Yudi, who is currently listed as a fugitive on the wanted list (DPO). Titik allegedly pawned the rental vehicle to him for five million rupiahs.
As the rental period approached its end, Nelson began asking about the whereabouts of his vehicle. On Wednesday, March 18, 2026, shortly before the rental deadline expired, Nelson contacted Erna to ask whether the vehicle had already been returned.
Erna then contacted Titik. At that time, Titik stated that she wanted to extend the rental period.
However, one day later, Nelson demanded that the vehicle be returned immediately according to the original agreement. Titik initially promised to return the vehicle. After that, however, her phone number could no longer be reached, causing Nelson to lose contact with her.
The vehicle was ultimately never returned to its owner.
As a result of the alleged act, Nelson Jerpis Jimmy Sagala suffered material losses estimated at approximately 145 million rupiahs.
Because his vehicle was not returned, Nelson eventually filed a police report over the alleged criminal offense at the Sunggal Police Station. Authorities launched an investigation, and the case was subsequently transferred to the Medan District Court.
During the trial, prosecutors argued that Titik Wulandari's actions met the legal requirements for misappropriation as charged in the indictment. However, the panel of judges will review all trial facts, the prosecutor's demand, and the defendant's request for leniency before delivering the verdict on Thursday, July 23, 2026. (IDNC)
