The race began at Segment V of Waterfront City Pangururan in Samosir Regency. With the ceremonial wave of the starting flag by Governor Bobby Afif Nasution, 57 runners from various countries embarked on a demanding journey across the scenic landscapes surrounding Lake Toba.

The 100K course takes participants through several areas of Samosir Regency, including Paraduan, Ronggur Nihuta, Huta Tinggi, Sitao-tao, the spiritually significant Pusuk Buhit area, the Geopark Information Center, SMA Negeri 1 Sianjur Mulamula, Ginolat, Bonan Dolok, and Bukit Burung before returning to the finish line in Pangururan.

The route not only tests the physical endurance and mental resilience of athletes but also showcases some of the most spectacular natural scenery in Indonesia. Rolling green hills, forest trails, panoramic views of Lake Toba, and traditional Batak villages create a unique racing experience that continues to attract international participants.

Athletes are required to complete the challenging course within a 30-hour time limit, making race strategy, energy management, and adaptability to changing terrain critical factors for success.

Samosir Welcomes Runners From Around the World

Samosir Regent Vandiko T. Gultom expressed pride in the regency's role as host of an international trail running event that has become part of the global sports calendar.

He emphasized that Trail of The Kings provides a valuable platform to introduce Samosir's tourism potential to an international audience while delivering an unforgettable experience for athletes and visitors alike.

"We warmly welcome participants from countries around the world. Trail of The Kings is not only about competition but also about discovering the natural beauty and cultural richness of Samosir. We hope every runner leaves with unforgettable memories of Samosir and Lake Toba," Vandiko said.

He noted that one of the event's greatest strengths lies in the combination of technically challenging trails and the breathtaking landscapes of Samosir. Throughout the race, participants encounter Lake Toba, the UNESCO Global Geopark area, forested hills, and the rich traditions of the Batak community.

According to Vandiko, this combination offers a distinctive value rarely found in similar sporting events. As a result, the local government remains committed to enhancing the quality of the event and strengthening its appeal to the international trail running community.

Boosting Tourism and the Local Economy

Beyond its tourism impact, Trail of The Kings also generates significant economic benefits for the region.

Vandiko explained that the arrival of thousands of athletes, support crews, officials, organizers, and visitors positively affects various sectors of the local economy. Hotels, restaurants, transportation services, and small and medium-sized enterprises have experienced increased demand throughout the event period.

Accommodation occupancy rates rise, tourist attractions receive higher visitor numbers, and locally produced goods gain broader market exposure.

"Sports tourism has become an important strategy for increasing visitor arrivals to Samosir. We will continue supporting international events that help elevate the global profile of Samosir and Lake Toba," he said.

The regency government views sports tourism as an effective approach to promoting sustainable tourism development. International sporting events not only generate short-term economic gains but also strengthen the long-term reputation of the destination.

The success of Trail of The Kings over the past two years has provided a strong foundation for expanding the international promotion of Lake Toba. With continued support from provincial and regional governments, along with various stakeholders, the event is expected to grow further and attract even more participants from around the world.

The flag-off ceremony was also attended by senior representatives from government institutions, security agencies, and regional organizations.
