MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM – Medan Mayor, Rico Waas, has strongly criticized the unauthorized use of Stadion Teladan by a local running community. The stadium is currently in its final completion and maintenance phase ahead of the upcoming AFF U-19 2026.
The incident has sparked concern among city officials, who emphasize that all access to the venue must follow official procedures during ongoing works.
No Permission Granted for Stadium Use
Rico Waas clarified that the city administration has not received any formal applications or official requests from running communities or other groups to use the stadium.He stressed that any activity within the stadium area must be approved through proper administrative channels, especially given the ongoing construction and preparation work.
"We deeply regret how this situation occurred. We understand the public's enthusiasm regarding the current condition of Stadion Teladan. However, there should have been prior coordination with the city administration," Rico said on Friday, May 29, 2026.
City Says No Communication Received
The mayor further emphasized that there was no communication or approval issued by the city government regarding the running activity."There was no communication or authorization from the city administration," he stated firmly.
City officials reiterated that maintaining strict control over access is essential to ensure safety and the smooth completion of renovation works at the venue.Investigation Into Access Breach
Following the incident, Rico Waas announced that the city government will investigate how the group gained entry to the stadium premises.Authorities aim to identify the responsible parties to prevent similar incidents in the future and ensure tighter security protocols.
