MONITORING THE UP2K PROGRAM: Expert I of the Deli Serdang Regency TP PKK, Asniar Lom Lom Suwondo, conducts monitoring of the UP2K, PHBS and IVA testing programs with her team in Sumbul and Gunung Rintih villages, STM Hilir District, on Thursday, September 3, 2026.

DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - The Deli Serdang Regency Team for Family Empowerment and Welfare (TP PKK) is strengthening programs aimed at increasing family income through Usaha Peningkatan Pendapatan Keluarga (UP2K), promoting Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS), and expanding Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (IVA) testing at the village level.

The call was made by Asniar Lom Lom Suwondo, Expert I of the Deli Serdang Regency TP PKK, during a visit with her team to Sumbul and Gunung Rintih villages in Sinembah Tanjung Muda Hilir (STM Hilir) District on Thursday, September 3, 2026. The visit was conducted to monitor the implementation of the programs.

The monitoring activity is part of the TP PKK's core programs and also serves as preparation for the 2026 Hari Kesatuan Gerak (HKG) PKK assessment. During the visit, the Deli Serdang Regency TP PKK not only reviewed administrative preparations but also urged cadres and village governments to strengthen various programs that provide direct benefits to the community.

UP2K Aims to Increase Family Income

During the monitoring in Sumbul Village, Asniar commended the village government, the village TP PKK and its cadres for their continued efforts to develop the UP2K program. She said UP2K plays an important role in helping families develop their economic potential while increasing household income.

Asniar urged those responsible for UP2K not to focus solely on production, but to continuously pursue innovation and improve the quality of products. Legal requirements must also receive greater attention so that products produced by family businesses can become more competitive and develop sustainably.

She called on UP2K entrepreneurs to fulfill various business requirements, including obtaining a Business Identification Number (Nomor Induk Berusaha/NIB), halal certification and other permits required according to the type of products being developed.

According to Asniar, the development of UP2K must have a tangible impact on increasing family income and welfare. Therefore, PKK cadres must maintain solidarity and strengthen cooperation so that the program is not implemented merely for assessment purposes, but grows into a sustainable community-based activity.

Strengthening family businesses also requires creativity from cadres in identifying the potential available within their villages. Products that have already been developed require continuous support in terms of quality, packaging, legal requirements and marketing. In this way, UP2K can become a driving force for the economic development of families at the village level.

Cadres as the Driving Force Behind PHBS and IVA Testing

Unlike Sumbul Village, the monitoring activity in Gunung Rintih Village focused more heavily on the implementation of PHBS and IVA testing. Asniar urged PKK cadres to improve data collection and actively encourage residents to undergo IVA testing as an early detection measure for cervical cancer.

She also said that coordination for IVA testing services could be facilitated through the district administration, including the possible deployment of mobile examination units at the regency level. The initiative is intended to make medical screening more accessible to residents, particularly women who need early examinations.

Asniar emphasized that PKK cadres must lead by example by taking care of their own health and undergoing regular medical checkups. In her view, cadres will find it easier to encourage residents to adopt healthy lifestyles when they practice those habits themselves in their daily lives.

In addition to IVA testing, the implementation of PHBS in the community must also be strengthened. This includes the use of hygienic sanitation facilities, access to clean water, exclusive breastfeeding, physical activity, environmental cleanliness and efforts to eliminate mosquito breeding sites.

These habits are essential to creating a healthy living environment in villages. PKK cadres hold a strategic position because they have direct contact with residents and can help raise awareness of the importance of family and environmental health.

"A healthy Deli Serdang must begin with healthy villages. Cadres must become the driving force and help the community develop a proper understanding," she said.

The statement also highlights the role of cadres as the frontline in implementing various PKK programs. Their responsibilities extend beyond administrative duties to encouraging residents to actively participate in health promotion and efforts to improve family welfare.

HKG Assessment to Encourage Concrete Innovation

On the occasion, Asniar called on all PKK cadres to continue developing innovations and to make PKK programs a collective movement. She reminded cadres that the HKG PKK assessment should not be focused solely on the completeness of administrative documents.

According to her, innovations and concrete activities that provide direct benefits to residents are important elements in the implementation of PKK programs. Therefore, cadres and village governments must work together to ensure that every program produces tangible results that can be felt by the community.

The monitoring activity also provided the TP PKK with an opportunity to identify various shortcomings that remain at the village level. Asniar expressed hope that these shortcomings could be addressed immediately through cooperation among cadres, village governments, district administrations and other relevant stakeholders.

Collaboration among various stakeholders is one of the keys to ensuring the consistent implementation of PKK programs. Through effective coordination, the development of UP2K, implementation of PHBS and greater public participation in IVA testing are expected not to end with monitoring activities or the HKG assessment, but to become lasting parts of daily life in the villages.

The monitoring in Sumbul and Gunung Rintih villages was also attended by Retno Z.A. Hutagalung, Head of Division II of the Deli Serdang Regency TP PKK, members of the Deli Serdang TP PKK board and monitoring team, the STM Hilir District Head and the Chairwoman of the STM Hilir District TP PKK, along with other relevant representatives.

The presence of various stakeholders demonstrates the synergy between the regency, district and village-level TP PKK in strengthening family empowerment programs. This collaboration is expected to accelerate improvements in various programs while increasing their benefits for the people of Deli Serdang.

Through direct field monitoring, the Deli Serdang Regency TP PKK can encourage cadres to continuously improve the quality of program implementation. Strengthening family businesses through UP2K, along with promoting health awareness through PHBS and IVA testing, forms part of efforts to build more independent, healthier and more prosperous families.
