DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - Bakaran Batu Village in Lubuk Pakam District is representing Deli Serdang Regency in the 2026 evaluation of the 10 Basic PKK Programs under the Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) category at the North Sumatra provincial level. The evaluation was held on Monday, September 21, 2026, in Hamlet III of Bakaran Batu Village.
The North Sumatra Provincial PKK evaluation team, led by PHBS Evaluation Team Chairwoman Ika Lestari Siregar, visited the location to directly observe the implementation of the PHBS program among residents. Deli Serdang Deputy Regent Lom Lom Suwondo, together with Deli Serdang PKK Team Expert Advisor I Asniar Lom Lom Suwondo, welcomed the evaluation team at the venue.Bakaran Batu Village's participation as Deli Serdang Regency's representative provided the village administration and residents with an opportunity to showcase various initiatives implemented to promote clean and healthy living habits. The program is not limited to environmental cleanliness but also covers daily habits that affect the health of families and the wider community.
Deli Serdang Deputy Regent Lom Lom Suwondo said PHBS must grow from simple habits that residents consistently practice. In his view, the success of the program is reflected not only in the condition of the environment during the evaluation but also in whether residents can maintain health-conscious behavior in their daily lives over the long term.
"PHBS begins with simple habits that are consistently practiced, such as keeping the environment clean, using clean water, ensuring proper sanitation, managing waste, washing hands regularly and maintaining food hygiene," he said.Lom Lom expressed hope that the implementation of PHBS in Bakaran Batu Village would not end with the completion of the evaluation. Clean and healthy living habits should instead become an integral part of residents' daily lives so that their positive impact can be sustained over the long term.
He also praised the village administration, PKK cadres and residents for their collective efforts in preparing Bakaran Batu for the evaluation at the North Sumatra provincial level.According to him, the involvement of various community groups demonstrates that implementing PHBS is a shared responsibility. The government can provide support through programs and guidance, while residents put the measures into practice in their daily lives and ensure their continued implementation in their respective communities.
She emphasized that the evaluation should not merely serve as an opportunity to review program performance based on predetermined indicators. Instead, it can become a moment to further strengthen public awareness and develop a sustainable culture of clean and healthy living.
"Winning is a bonus for the efforts that have been made. The real achievement, however, is a change in behavior toward a healthy lifestyle," she said.This demonstrates that the evaluation result is not the only measure of the program's success. Changes in community behavior play a central role because PHBS relies on habits that must be continuously practiced both at home and in community life.
Cooperation between PKK cadres, the village administration and residents is also an important foundation for maintaining various activities related to cleanliness, health, sanitation, environmental management and the use of medicinal plants in the home environment.
Meanwhile, Chairwoman of the North Sumatra Provincial PKK PHBS Evaluation Team Ika Lestari Siregar read out a speech from North Sumatra PKK Team Chairwoman Kahiyang Ayu Bobby Nasution. The speech emphasized that PHBS and Clean and Healthy Environment (LBS) programs are not merely intended to fulfill the indicators required during an evaluation.
Instead, the programs are designed to strengthen public awareness and habits in adopting a healthy lifestyle. At the same time, PHBS and LBS are expected to contribute to creating a clean, healthy and sustainable environment.The 2026 evaluation of the 10 Basic PKK Programs in the PHBS category at the North Sumatra provincial level involves six nominated regencies and three nominated cities. The evaluation team examines various aspects that reflect the implementation of the programs in each participating region.
The aspects assessed include community participation, innovations developed, program implementation outcomes and the sustainability of activities. The assessment is intended to provide an overview of the extent to which the PHBS program has been implemented and the level of support it receives from residents in the nominated areas.During the evaluation in Bakaran Batu, the event continued with a presentation on various village programs and achievements delivered by Sunarsi M Irwan Tanjung, Chairwoman of the Bakaran Batu Village PKK Team.
The evaluation team then visited several locations that form part of the PHBS implementation in Hamlet III, including Asri PHBS Alley and Toga Alley. The visit allowed the team to directly observe the condition of the environment and learn about various community activities supporting clean and healthy living behavior.The event in Bakaran Batu Village was also supported by various agencies within the Deli Serdang Regency administration, the Deli Serdang Regency PKK Team, the Lubuk Pakam District administration, the village administration and PKK cadres.
Those in attendance included Lubuk Pakam District Head Wahyu Rismiana, Chairwoman of the Lubuk Pakam District PKK Team Rahima Wahyu Rismiana, Bakaran Batu Village Head M. Irwan Tanjung, numerous cadres and other invited guests.The involvement of various stakeholders demonstrates that PHBS implementation requires close cooperation between the government and the community. Through continuous collaboration, habits related to environmental care, family health protection, improved sanitation, waste management and the health-promoting use of the living environment can move beyond the evaluation process and develop into a lasting culture in Bakaran Batu Village.
Ultimately, the North Sumatra provincial-level evaluation is part of efforts to strengthen the implementation of the 10 Basic PKK Programs, particularly in promoting clean and healthy living behavior.
