KAHIYANG AYU PRESENTS AWARDS TO 2026 KILAS VLOG COMPETITION WINNERS: Kahiyang Ayu, Chair of the North Sumatra TP PKK, presents trophies and prizes to the winners of the 2026 Vlog Competition entitled “Indonesian Families Protect Children from Sexual Violence” (KILAS) at the Grand Mercure Hotel in Medan on Wednesday evening, 21 October 2026.

MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - Kahiyang Ayu, Chair of the Family Welfare Movement (TP PKK) of North Sumatra Province, has presented trophies and prizes to nine regencies and cities recognised in the 2026 Vlog Competition entitled "Indonesian Families Protect Children from Sexual Violence" (KILAS). Held under the theme "Protect Children from Sexual Violence", the competition aims to encourage families and communities to strengthen child protection through education, supervision and the early identification of risks associated with sexual violence.

Kahiyang presented the awards on Wednesday evening, 21 October 2026, at the Grand Mercure Hotel in Medan. Grace Prayanti Noventina Simamora, Chair of Working Group I of the North Sumatra TP PKK, announced the names of the winners during the ceremony.

The 2026 KILAS competition featured two categories: regencies and cities. Through the competition, the North Sumatra TP PKK seeks to encourage local governments and PKK cadres to communicate child protection messages creatively, clearly and in ways that resonate with their target audiences.

Deli Serdang and Gunungsitoli Take First Place

In the regency category, Deli Serdang secured first place with 90 points. Asahan came second with 85 points, while Pakpak Bharat finished third with 80 points.

The judges also awarded three commendations. South Tapanuli received the first commendation, Dairi the second and Humbang Hasundutan the third.

In the city category, Gunungsitoli claimed first place with 87 points. Pematangsiantar finished second with 85 points, followed by Tebingtinggi in third place with 83 points.

Kahiyang Ayu presented the trophies and prizes alongside Titiek Sugiharti, an expert adviser to the North Sumatra TP PKK. The awards recognise the commitment of regency and city administrations to using digital media to raise awareness of child protection.

Kahiyang Ayu Listens to Regional PKK Organisations

Following the award ceremony, Kahiyang welcomed representatives of the TP PKK from regencies and cities across North Sumatra and held discussions with them. She asked about the needs of regional organisations to help support the implementation of their work programmes and increase the benefits of PKK activities for families.

Wearing a black outfit complemented by an ulos sash, a traditional textile from the region, Kahiyang gave representatives of regional TP PKK organisations the opportunity to put forward their concerns and requests. She stressed, however, that any assistance would need to take account of available budget allocations, as well as the necessary guidance and supervision, to ensure that the support contributed to the long-term implementation of their programmes.

"Thank you to all the ladies and everyone else who came this evening. I want to ask what is needed, but we also have to look at the budget. In addition, there needs to be appropriate guidance and support," Kahiyang said.

She hopes the assistance will strengthen the implementation of the PKK's ten core programmes in each region. These programmes cover the promotion and practical application of Pancasila principles, mutual assistance and solidarity, food, clothing, housing and household management, education and skills development, health, the promotion of cooperatives, environmental protection, and health-conscious life planning.

Closer coordination between the TP PKK at provincial, regency and city levels is expected to ensure that the programmes better reflect the needs of local communities. Targeted assistance can also help PKK cadres educate families, strengthen social responsibility and expand the reach of child protection initiatives.

Five KILAS Steps to Protect Children

The "Indonesian Families Protect Children from Sexual Violence" programme is built around five key concepts designed to help families and communities prevent sexual violence against children.

The first step, "Kenali" (Recognise), focuses on understanding the different forms of sexual violence and teaching children which parts of their bodies are private. This enables parents to provide age-appropriate guidance and help children recognise potentially unsafe situations.

The second step, "Identifikasi" (Identify), encourages families to recognise behavioural changes and unusual signs in children. Parents and other caregivers should promote open communication so that children feel safe discussing their experiences and expressing discomfort.

The third step, "Lindungi" (Protect), highlights the importance of creating a safe environment at home and within the wider community. Achieving this requires cooperation between families, communities and everyone who comes into contact with children.

The fourth step, "Ajarkan" (Teach), encourages parents to educate their children from an early age and teach them to say "No" firmly when they experience unwanted touching. Children should also know that they can turn to trusted adults if they feel threatened or believe their safety is at risk.

The fifth step, "Segera Laporkan" (Report Immediately), calls on families and communities to seek help and report incidents without delay whenever there are signs of, or suspicions about, sexual violence. Prompt and appropriate action is essential to protect children and prevent further abuse.

Kahiyang emphasised that families play a crucial role in communication, supervision and early education. The TP PKK can support these efforts by raising public awareness, establishing KILAS Corners and organising information sessions in different regions.

"Families are the most important line of defence when it comes to communication, supervision and early education. The TP PKK serves as an awareness-raising body, operates KILAS Corners and organises information sessions in various regions," she said in closing.

Through the 2026 KILAS Vlog Competition and efforts to strengthen regional cadres, the North Sumatra TP PKK aims to encourage families to regard child protection as a shared responsibility. Continuous education, open communication, safe environments and a willingness to report suspected abuse are essential to building a stronger child protection system. (IDNC)
