DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - Deli Serdang Regent Dr. H. Asri Ludin Tambunan officially inaugurated the new building of Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP) Kavri in Talun Kenas Village, STM Hilir District, on Thursday, September 24, 2026. The new facility is expected to further improve the quality of education while providing more students with access to proper and quality learning facilities.
The construction of the new SMP Kavri building is part of the 2026 education facility revitalization program supported by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen). Through the program, several new facilities have been developed to support teaching and learning activities and meet the needs of students and teaching staff.The revitalization includes the construction of a computer laboratory, science laboratory, school health unit (UKS), classroom, toilets, and teachers' room. The additional facilities are part of efforts to improve the learning environment and provide students with more adequate conditions throughout their educational journey.
At the inauguration, Asri Ludin Tambunan stressed that improvements in educational infrastructure must go hand in hand with equal access to quality education. He said the government must ensure that students at both public and private schools have equal opportunities for personal and academic development."We hope graduates of private and public schools will be equal and have the same quality. There must be no difference between children attending public and private schools," he said.
Asri Ludin said improved educational infrastructure must have a direct impact on the quality of learning. He expressed hope that private schools would also be able to produce graduates whose competencies and educational quality are comparable to those of public schools.
According to him, a child's educational opportunities should not depend on the type of school they attend. The Deli Serdang Regency Government has a responsibility to address the educational needs of residents across different areas.Along with the development of SMP Kavri, Asri Ludin also called on the Kavri Foundation to coordinate with the North Sumatra Provincial Government regarding plans to develop an education program at the SMA level, or senior high school level.
"The construction of an SMA would help expand educational facilities in STM Hilir. I certainly support it if the foundation wants to pursue such a development," he said.According to Asri Ludin, expanding educational services to the SMA level would provide residents, particularly SMP graduates in STM Hilir District, with a closer educational option. More comprehensive educational infrastructure could also help ensure students' continued education without requiring them to rely on facilities in other areas.
The regional government, he said, would review the needs presented and provide support gradually according to its capacity and authority.
"There are no stepchildren and no biological children. All elementary and junior high school students are children of Deli Serdang," he said.Through the statement, Asri Ludin emphasized the Deli Serdang Government's commitment to supporting children's education in the region regardless of whether they attend public or private educational institutions.
At the same time, Asri Ludin reminded students that the development of school facilities must be accompanied by a strong willingness to learn. He encouraged students to make use of the new buildings and facilities to further develop their abilities and pursue their future aspirations.Asri Ludin expressed hope that SMP Kavri would produce a generation with the skills and character needed to take on leadership responsibilities in the future. He said he hoped graduates would not only contribute to STM Hilir District but also take on responsibilities at a broader level, including within North Sumatra Province.
This expectation reflects the regional government's view that the development of educational infrastructure should go beyond the provision of buildings and facilities and also contribute to the development of qualified human resources.
Rumpia also explained that SMP Kavri had previously received support from the regional government. Among the assistance was the construction of a school fence, which was completed with support from former Deli Serdang Regent Amri Tambunan.
According to her, government support has been an important part of the development of SMP Kavri in carrying out its role of providing educational services to the community."For us, the Regent's presence here is something very special for the entire foundation family," she said.
Also attending the inauguration were the chairwoman of the Deli Serdang Regency TP PKK, representatives of various relevant regional agencies, members of the North Sumatra Provincial Legislative Council, members of the Deli Serdang Regional Legislative Council, the head of STM Hilir District, representatives of Talun Kenas Village, and members of the Kavri Foundation.The new facilities are expected to help SMP Kavri further improve the quality of education and create a learning environment that better supports students' development. The Deli Serdang Government is also committed to ensuring that educational infrastructure development continues through cooperation among the foundation, the regional government, and the provincial government.
