DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - The Deli Serdang Regency Government began construction of the Alun-Alun in STM Hilir District on Thursday, September 24, 2026. The public facility is being built in Talun Kenas Village, directly in front of the STM Hilir District Head's Office. The official start of construction was marked by a groundbreaking ceremony led by Deli Serdang Regent Dr. H. Asri Ludin Tambunan, together with the Chairwoman of TP PKK Deli Serdang, regional government officials and the STM Hilir District Head.
The construction of the Alun-Alun is part of the Deli Serdang Government's efforts to provide additional public spaces that can be used by residents for various activities. In addition to sports and recreational activities and serving as a meeting place, the facility is also expected to support micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM) as well as family activities.
The new Alun-Alun is expected not only to enhance the center of STM Hilir District, but also to provide a place for people to meet and interact, supporting various social and economic activities.
Deli Serdang Regent Dr. H. Asri Ludin Tambunan said the government hopes the new Alun-Alun will provide residents of STM Hilir with additional space for various activities. The facility can be used for sports, meetings, UMKM activities and spending time with family.
"With this new Alun-Alun, we hope to create a new landmark as well as a gathering place for the people of STM Hilir—for sports, UMKM activities and family tourism," he said.
According to Asri Ludin, a representative public space can support various community activities. The Alun-Alun can also bring together people from different social groups in a more open and comfortable environment.
Through this concept, the government hopes residents will be able to make optimal use of the Alun-Alun once construction is completed. Sports activities, community events and economic activities can all take place there.
According to Asri Ludin, construction of the Alun-Alun is not a stand-alone project. The Deli Serdang Government considers it part of a gradual program to improve public facilities in STM Hilir District.
In addition, Asri Ludin said the government is preparing improvements to other facilities related to public administration and community needs. These include the STM Hilir District Head's Office and educational facilities.
The development of public facilities at the district level is important to support community activities while strengthening public services. With improved infrastructure, residents are expected to have greater opportunities to carry out social, economic, educational and community activities.
The construction of the Alun-Alun in Talun Kenas Village will also expand the function of the area surrounding the STM Hilir District Head's Office. The public space is expected to give the area a new appearance and develop into another important gathering place for the community.
Asri Ludin hopes the new public facilities in STM Hilir will provide long-term benefits for the community. He views regional infrastructure development as part of efforts to create an environment that supports the development of the younger generation.
"We hope this will become a foundation for STM Hilir to continue progressing, for children to grow into a strong Generation 2045, and for people to be proud to be part of STM Hilir District," he said in closing.
The Deli Serdang Government hopes the new Alun-Alun will encourage residents to make productive use of the public space. In addition to sports and family recreation, the facility will provide space for UMKM activities and various other community activities.
The construction of the Alun-Alun is also part of the redevelopment of public facilities in STM Hilir District. The regional government plans to gradually improve other facilities according to community needs and the region's available financial and construction capacity.
