The first incident occurred on Thursday, 17 September 2026, at around 6.40 am on an oil palm plantation at the home of H. Parman in Ujung Padang A hamlet, Ulumahuam Village, Silangkitang District.
According to the investigation, 32-year-old Adi Gunawan Harahap spotted a blue Suzuki Smash motorcycle parked on the terrace of Sulastri's house. At the time, the key was still in the seat lock.Adi subsequently took the motorcycle. When the owner noticed what had happened, Adi initially claimed that he only intended to borrow the vehicle.
However, the owner immediately objected, as she had not given him permission. Adi then said he wanted to buy fuel, but nevertheless left the scene on the motorcycle.Later, the victim saw her vehicle passing along the public road in front of H. Parman's oil palm plantation. She shouted at the rider, "Kereta ku, Bang!" The rider, however, accelerated and continued on his way.
According to the investigation, Adi allegedly used the motorcycle to transport oil palm fruit belonging to residents in Rintis Village. The suspect allegedly sold the fruit before travelling to Bragas in North Padang Lawas Regency and subsequently continuing his journey to Ajamu in Labuhanbatu Regency. The police then launched an investigation to establish the whereabouts of the suspect and the vehicle reported stolen.
On Sunday, 20 September 2026, at around 12.20 am, officers arrested Adi at a relative's house in Ajamu, accompanied by Tri Suleman, the victim's husband. The officers also seized the blue Suzuki Smash motorcycle, which had allegedly been taken without permission. The suspect and the evidence were subsequently taken to the Silangkitang Police Station, where further legal proceedings were initiated.
The case was registered under Police Report No. LP/B/20/IX/2026/SPKT/Polsek Silangkitang/Polres Labuhanbatu Selatan/Polda Sumatera Utara, dated 20 September 2026.
The second case concerns the disappearance of a Honda Revo motorcycle bearing registration number BK 5120 ZAI, owned by Zul Idris Harahap. The incident came to light on Tuesday, 14 July 2026.
At around 8 pm, the complainant asked Heriansyah Harahap about the whereabouts of his vehicle. The witness explained that someone named Aidi had previously been seen using the motorcycle. The complainant then searched for the missing vehicle together with witness Sri Astuti. Around midnight, he received a telephone call from Joko, who informed him that his Honda Revo was at the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Samsat office and was to be taken to the Kotapinang Police Station.
According to the information received, officers had secured the vehicle because they suspected that someone had used it in an oil palm fruit theft at a plantation in the Simatahari area.Zul Idris Harahap filed a police report on Wednesday, 15 July 2026. In this investigation, the police identified 38-year-old Riswaldi Nasution, alias Aldi, a resident of Basilam Baru hamlet, Sosopan Village, Kotapinang District, as the suspect.
Investigators supported the handling of the case by questioning witnesses and the suspect, as well as examining electronic evidence in the form of CCTV footage. The officers seized a Honda Revo motorcycle bearing registration number BK 5120 ZAI, its vehicle registration certificate (STNK), ownership certificate (BPKB) and a USB drive containing CCTV footage.

Police Chief AKBP Rosef Efendi expressed his gratitude to residents of Labuhanbatu Selatan for their active support and for providing information about various disturbances to public security and order. In his view, public involvement was an important factor in solving crimes and preventing criminal activity. He also urged residents not to be afraid to report incidents or information about suspected offences, including those occurring in villages or remote areas.
"However minor an incident in a village or a remote village area may appear, please report it. The public can contact the Indonesian Police's free emergency hotline on 110. I hope that all sections of society in Labuhanbatu Selatan will not hesitate to report problems of any kind," AKBP Rosef said.AKBP Rosef also stressed that investigators were continuing to examine both cases. So far, the police had drawn no conclusions about the possible involvement of a criminal syndicate in either case.
Economic factors were among the possible causes that investigators needed to examine further. However, the actual causes and motives behind the incidents would have to be established through the findings of the investigation and the available evidence.
The resolution of the two cases serves as a reminder that criminal offences can be facilitated by simple acts of carelessness. Vehicles left with their keys in the ignition or locks can provide opportunities for potential offenders.
The public should therefore increase its vigilance by avoiding leaving keys in their vehicles, using additional security locks and parking in safe, visible locations. At the same time, victims' willingness to file reports, witness statements from the public and electronic evidence can help accelerate the search for suspected offenders. Information provided by residents can also give investigators initial leads for further developments in a case.
Law enforcement serves not only to solve cases but also to build a sense of security and public trust. Cooperation between the police and the community is an important foundation for reducing crime and maintaining public security and order in Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency. The Labuhanbatu Selatan Police reaffirmed their commitment to improving public services, protection and assistance, as well as law enforcement.
