REVIEWING THE NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM: Minister of Manpower Yassierli reviews the implementation of the National Apprenticeship Program Batch 2, Cohort II, at PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan, and Ratu Boko in Yogyakarta, Wednesday, October 7, 2026.

YOGYAKARTA | INDATANEWS.COM - Minister of Manpower Yassierli has emphasized that the National Apprenticeship Program is one of President Prabowo Subianto's priority programs aimed at narrowing the gap between the competencies of university graduates and the needs of the industrial sector.

Yassierli made the statement while reviewing the implementation of the National Apprenticeship Program Batch 2, Cohort II, at PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan, and Ratu Boko in Yogyakarta on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. A total of 40 participants are taking part in the apprenticeship program in the field of Branding and Marketing at the company.

According to Yassierli, the government designed the National Apprenticeship Program not merely as a means for university graduates to gain work experience. The program also serves as a platform for developing competencies relevant to companies' needs, enabling participants to be better prepared when entering the labor market.

During the six-month program, participants receive an allowance equivalent to the applicable regency/city minimum wage. The policy is expected to provide support to participants throughout their learning process and work experience at the company.

"This is an extraordinary program. The government provides an allowance for six months in accordance with the regency/city minimum wage. Therefore, make the most of this opportunity," Yassierli said.

Opportunity to Develop Competencies

Yassierli urged all participants to make the most of their apprenticeship period. He encouraged them not only to carry out the tasks assigned by the company, but also to actively learn, develop their skills, build communication abilities, and understand the working patterns applied in the industrial environment.

According to him, the six-month apprenticeship period is an important opportunity for participants to gain firsthand exposure to the workplace. Such experience can serve as valuable capital when they begin seeking employment after completing the program.

Yassierli said performance and competency alignment are important factors that can open opportunities for participants to secure employment. Therefore, participants need to demonstrate their best abilities throughout the apprenticeship so that companies can recognize their potential.

"If their performance is good and their competencies are in line with the requirements, the opportunity to be hired will certainly become greater," he said.

He also reminded participants not to regard an offer of employment from the company where they undertake their apprenticeship as the sole measure of the program's success. According to him, apprenticeships offer broader benefits by providing participants with opportunities to build experience, expand professional networks, and gain direct insight into industry requirements.

Not Necessarily Ending in Recruitment

Yassierli emphasized that participants do not necessarily have to work for the company where they complete their apprenticeship once the program ends. He said the experience and competencies gained during the six-month period are far more important as preparation for entering the workforce.

"After the apprenticeship, not all participants have to work at the same place. The most important thing is that this six-month apprenticeship period provides experience and improves their competencies," he said.

According to Yassierli, working experience in a corporate environment can help participants understand workplace demands while identifying the skills they still need to improve. Participants can also use the networks they establish during their apprenticeship to expand their career opportunities after completing the program.

For university graduates, such experience is important because the industrial sector requires more than educational qualifications. It also requires practical skills, adaptability, communication, teamwork, and an understanding of job requirements.

The National Apprenticeship Program, Yassierli continued, was established to bridge these needs. The government is encouraging companies to become involved in talent development so that participants can gain experience that corresponds to actual workplace requirements.

Under this approach, apprenticeships are not limited to learning activities within companies. They are also part of efforts to build stronger relationships among universities, job seekers, the government, and the industrial sector.

Companies Can Identify Potential Talent

In addition to benefiting participants, Yassierli said companies also gain advantages from implementing the National Apprenticeship Program. Companies can use the apprenticeship period to directly assess the abilities and characteristics of prospective workers.

According to him, companies have the opportunity to evaluate participants based on their performance throughout the program. Participants who demonstrate abilities that match the company's requirements can become potential talent for meeting future workforce needs.

In this way, apprenticeships can also help companies overcome difficulties in finding workers with the competencies they require. Companies can identify potential employees at an early stage through a six-month apprenticeship process.

"Companies do not need to go through the trouble of looking for other workers if they already have good talent among the apprentices. They can simply recruit them," he said.

Yassierli expressed hope that participants would not waste the opportunity to take part in the National Apprenticeship Program. He encouraged them to make use of every learning opportunity to improve their competencies while building a professional reputation within the company.

The program is expected to strengthen the readiness of university graduates to meet the evolving needs of industry. At the same time, company participation in apprenticeship programs can help create a more effective recruitment process because companies have the opportunity to identify prospective workers based directly on their experience and performance.

Through this synergy, the government hopes the National Apprenticeship Program will narrow the competency gap between university graduates and industrial needs while expanding young people's access to the world of work. (IDNC)
