SPORTS AND HEALTH EDUCATION: Adviser to the Dharma Wanita Persatuan of Sumatera Utara Kahiyang Ayu invites students of TK/SD Pertiwi Medan to take part in sports activities, health education, and the planting of medicinal herbs together on the school grounds during Germas Ceria, Thursday, September 24, 2026.

MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - Kahiyang Ayu, Adviser to the Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) of Sumatera Utara, has encouraged students of TK/SD Pertiwi Medan to develop healthy habits from an early age. The message was delivered during the "Gerakan Masyarakat Hidup Sehat (Germas) Ceria" event, which combined health education, physical activities, and environmental awareness in a fun and child-friendly atmosphere.

The event carried the theme "Happy Children Move, Stay Healthy Together, and Love the Environment" and was held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the school yard of TK/SD Yayasan Pertiwi on Jalan Budi Kemasyarakatan Number 4, Medan.

During the event, the students took part in various educational activities designed to introduce them to the importance of physical health as well as their responsibility toward the environment. The children were not only given theoretical knowledge but also had the opportunity to practice healthy habits directly through group activities.

Building Healthy Habits at School

Kahiyang Ayu said Germas Ceria provides an opportunity to introduce positive habits to children while they are still at school and to encourage them to maintain those habits over time. In her view, healthy lifestyles should be developed through simple activities that children can practice independently in their daily lives.

"Through Germas Ceria, we invite children to build positive habits, starting with staying physically active, taking care of their health, and at the same time developing awareness of cleanliness and environmental protection," Kahiyang said.

She emphasized that adopting a healthy lifestyle should not wait until adulthood. Children need to gain knowledge and practical experience from an early age so that they become accustomed to taking care of their health, staying active, and paying attention to their immediate surroundings.

"We are building awareness among the younger generation about growing up healthy from now, not only when they reach adulthood. Therefore, it is important for children to maintain their health, stay active, and at the same time develop a sense of responsibility for their environment," she said.

Kahiyang also called on schools and families to consistently set positive examples for children. In her view, healthy habits are easier to develop when children receive continuous support both in their learning environment and at home.

Fun Exercise and Planting Herbal Plants

During the Germas Ceria event, the students joined Kahiyang Ayu in a fun exercise session. The physical activity also served as part of the health education program and created an interactive learning atmosphere for the children.

Kahiyang interacted directly with the students throughout the event. She invited them to exercise together while introducing the importance of physical activity for maintaining fitness in a fun and engaging way.

In addition to exercise, the event also highlighted the importance of maintaining cleanliness in the school environment. The students learned that keeping their surroundings clean is an important part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Kahiyang Ayu subsequently symbolically handed over several items to the school. These included flower pots and trash bins to support the school in maintaining cleanliness and improving its surroundings.

She also distributed traditional gardening hats and outdoor hats to the students. The equipment complemented the activities aimed at encouraging the children to become more actively involved in environmental activities.

Kahiyang then planted various medicinal and culinary plants together with the students. Among the plants they planted on the school grounds were lemongrass, galangal, aloe vera, and turmeric.

The activity provided the children with practical experience in caring for plants while introducing them to various plant species that have practical uses in everyday life. Through such simple activities, schools can foster environmental awareness among children from an early age and encourage them to care for and protect their surroundings.

HEALTHY DAILY HABITS: Principal of TK/SD Pertiwi Medan Rusmiati hopes that the healthy habits promoted at school will also be continued by students in their daily lives together with their families and in their residential communities. (PHOTO: Munawar Harahap)

School Seeks to Extend Healthy Habits at Home

In addition to environmental activities and exercise, Kahiyang Ayu also handed out bags and additional nutritious food to the children. The distribution was part of the Germas Ceria series, which highlighted the importance of health and adequate nutrition for children's development.

The Principal of TK/SD Pertiwi Medan, Rusmiati, welcomed the implementation of Germas Ceria at the school. She said the event provided an important boost to efforts to strengthen education about healthy lifestyles while encouraging greater involvement from the school, parents, and students.

According to Rusmiati, developing healthy habits requires support from various parties. Schools can provide knowledge and encourage positive habits during the educational process, while families play an important role in ensuring those habits are consistently practiced at home.

"We hope that the adoption of a healthy lifestyle will not be limited to the school environment, but will also be practiced by the students in their daily lives together with their families and in their residential communities," Rusmiati said.

She expressed hope that events such as Germas Ceria would provide students with positive experiences and strengthen their understanding of the importance of health and cleanliness. The habits developed should not apply only during the event but should become an integral part of the children's daily lives.

The implementation of Germas Ceria also demonstrated how health education can be combined with activities suited to children's developmental stages and interests. Exercise, planting medicinal herbs, maintaining cleanliness, and providing additional nutritious food formed a series of activities through which the children could experience and understand the importance of health directly.

Also attending the event were Adviser to the DWP of Sumatera Utara Titiek Sugiharti, Chairwoman of DWP Sumatera Utara Boya Yanti and her board members, as well as teachers from TK/SD Pertiwi Medan. The involvement of various stakeholders reinforced the central message of Germas Ceria: healthy habits, physical activity, balanced nutrition, and environmental awareness should become part of children's daily lives from an early age.
