DELISERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM – Indonesia U-19 national team opened their AFF U-19 Championship 2026 campaign in commanding fashion, securing a convincing 3–0 victory over Myanmar in their Group A opener at the Utama Sumatera Utara Stadium in Deli Serdang on Monday evening (June 1, 2026).
The match was played in front of a lively and passionate crowd, with thousands of supporters creating an electrifying atmosphere as they celebrated the strong start of the Indonesian youth side.
Strong Public and Official Support in the Stands
Local government officials were also present to witness the match firsthand. Medan Mayor Rico Tri Putra Bayu Waas and his deputy H. Zakiyuddin Harahap attended the stadium, showing direct support for the national youth team.
Both officials had expressed optimism ahead of kick-off that Indonesia would begin the tournament positively—a prediction that was convincingly fulfilled by head coach Nova Arianto's squad.
Arkhan Kaka Breaks the Deadlock
Indonesia dominated possession from the outset, applying early pressure on Myanmar's defensive line. Several chances created by Fabio Azka and Reno Salampessy, however, went unfinished in the early stages.
The breakthrough finally came in the 38th minute when Arkhan Kaka produced a composed finish, lifting the ball over the goalkeeper after a well-timed long pass to give Indonesia a 1–0 lead heading into halftime.
Dimas Wicaksono Seals the Victory with a Brace
Indonesia maintained control in the second half, while Myanmar occasionally threatened on the counterattack. However, goalkeeper Dafa Al Gasemi stood firm to deny any hopes of an equalizer.
In the 78th minute, Dimas Wicaksono doubled the lead after capitalizing on an error from the Myanmar goalkeeper. He struck again eight minutes later with a sharp finish from a tight angle to complete his brace and seal a 3–0 victory.
The result places Indonesia at the top of Group A, level on points with Vietnam, who also recorded a 3–0 win over Timor-Leste in their opening match.
Strong backing from political and community figures, including the presence of Rico Waas and H. Zakiyuddin Harahap, is expected to provide additional momentum for Indonesia as the tournament progresses. (IDNC)
