GOVERNOR DELAYS SIGNING OF HOSPITAL PROJECT: North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution postpones the signing of a Rp484 billion project at Haji Hospital Medan as part of a cautious fiscal strategy.

MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM North Sumatra Governor, Bobby Nasution, has received support from the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD Sumatera Utara) after deciding to postpone the signing of a major healthcare infrastructure project worth approximately Rp484 billion. The move is seen as part of a cautious and responsible approach to provincial budget management.

DPRD Supports Transparent Fiscal Oversight

Member of Commission A of the North Sumatra DPRD, Irham Buana Nasution, expressed his support on Tuesday (May 26, 2026) in Medan. He said the governor's decision to temporarily halt the planned development of Tower B at Haji Hospital Medan was appropriate, given the need for clearer financial scrutiny.

The Golkar Party politician noted that the project, which is planned to be financed through a South Korean foreign loan scheme, had not been thoroughly and transparently discussed within the DPRD budget committee.

"I recall that when I served as Deputy Speaker, this project was not discussed in detail or transparently in the budget committee. There was no complete alignment between the provincial government and the DPRD," he said.

Concerns Over South Korean Loan Scheme

Irham further explained that there had been no final joint deliberation between the provincial government and the legislature regarding the project's overall structure. Key concerns include the loan mechanism, repayment scheme, and its long-term impact on North Sumatra's regional budget (APBD).

He stressed that, given the scale of the project, a comprehensive evaluation is essential before any agreement is signed.

"This is not only about risks for the provincial government, but also about the future burden on the APBD. At a value of Rp484 billion—nearly half a trillion rupiah—everything must be carefully reviewed. It should not be signed before its substance and consequences are fully understood," Irham added.

Governor Questions OPD Project Proposals

Earlier, Governor Bobby Nasution had also rejected several project proposals from regional government organizations (OPD) in North Sumatra, deeming them unrealistic and potentially inflated in value.

One of the highlighted projects involved the same Rp484 billion allocation, which the governor criticized for lacking detailed planning and financial structure.

He emphasized that all public investment must be transparent, well-documented, and based on clear planning before receiving approval. (IDNC)
