MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM – A solemn yet joyful atmosphere marked the 2026 Ecumenical Easter Celebration organized by the Medan City Government at Pardede Hall on Wednesday evening (April 29, 2026). Medan Mayor Rico Tri Putra Bayu Waas attended the event alongside the Chairperson of TP PKK Medan, Airin Rico Waas. The celebration drew thousands of worshippers in a vibrant display of unity and faith.
In his address, Mayor Rico Waas emphasized the importance of love, mutual respect, and protection for one another as the foundation for building Medan as a multicultural city. He reaffirmed the city administration's commitment to preserving diversity while firmly rejecting all forms of discrimination within society.
He also encouraged the public to use Easter as a moment of self-reflection. Under the theme "Christ is Risen and Renews Our Humanity," he urged citizens to pursue personal growth and contribute positively to their communities.

Head of the Medan Fire and Rescue Agency as well as Chair of the organizing committee, Wandro Abadi Agnellus Malau, stated that the series of events began with free health services, social assistance programs, and an interdenominational worship service attended by thousands of Christians from various churches across Medan.
He noted that all activities ran smoothly and received an enthusiastic response from the public.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, Medan-born singer Lyodra Ginting delivered a captivating performance that thrilled the audience. A raffle draw featuring attractive prizes further enlivened the celebration.
The event was also attended by numerous prominent figures, including Indonesian Parliament member Maruli Siahaan, Medan City Council Chairman Wong Chun Sen, Medan Police Chief Kombes Pol Jean Calvijn Simanjuntak, City Secretary Wiriya Alrahman, representatives of the Regional Leadership Forum (Forkopimda), heads of municipal agencies, religious leaders, and other community figures.
