MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The spirit of unity among the Muslim community in Babura Sunggal was once again on display as the renovation of Al-Mukhsinin Mosque on Pasar VI, Jalan Darusalam, Medan officially commenced. Residents joined the mosque renovation committee in a symbolic cornerstone-laying ceremony on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, marking the official start of the construction project.
Held in a modest setting, the ceremony carried significant meaning for the local community. Community leaders and local government officials attended the event, including Babura Sunggal Subdistrict Head Hadengganan Harahap, S.Pd, accompanied by Subdistrict Secretary Saleh Harahap.Also present was a representative of the North Sumatra Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI Sumut), Deputy Chairman of the Advisory Council Dr. H. Arso, SH., M.Ag. Representing the renovation committee were Chairman H. A. Rachmansyah Rahman, Vice Chairman M. Zailani, Treasurer Dr. Ir. H. Suwito Asmo, MM, and Deputy Treasurer T. Adil Faridz.

He explained that the deteriorating condition of the existing building encouraged local Muslim residents to work together to renovate the mosque, ensuring that the place of worship would better serve the needs of the growing congregation.
Senior community figure and one of the witnesses to the mosque's early history, H. Suwito Asmo, shared that Al-Mukhsinin Mosque has served the community since the 1960s."The Al-Mukhsinin Mosque was established in the 1960s as a charitable endowment (waqf) from the late Mr. Saleh. Due to the aging structure and limited prayer space, members of the Muslim community agreed to renovate, expand, and enhance the mosque to better accommodate worshippers," H. Suwito Asmo said.
He added that the committee aims to complete the renovation within approximately six months. The total project budget is estimated at around Rp900 million, while donations collected so far have reached approximately Rp400 million.H. Suwito expressed hope that once completed, Al-Mukhsinin Mosque would accommodate more worshippers and become a center for religious activities serving the surrounding Muslim community.
Babura Sunggal Subdistrict Head Hadengganan Harahap, S.Pd, praised the residents' commitment to improving their place of worship through mutual cooperation. He emphasized that the renovation represents not only physical development but also a stronger sense of solidarity and togetherness among the local community.
Accompanied by Subdistrict Secretary Saleh Harahap, Hadengganan expressed his appreciation for the commencement of the project."The cornerstone laying for the renovation of Al-Mukhsinin Mosque marks a new beginning in strengthening the Muslim community in Medan, particularly in Babura Sunggal. May the construction proceed smoothly and become a lasting act of charity for all of us," he said.
He also expressed hope that every stage of the construction would proceed according to plan and receive broad public support, allowing the renovated mosque to provide even greater benefits to the surrounding community.
North Sumatra MUI representative Dr. H. Arso, SH., M.Ag, also expressed his full support for the renovation project. In addition to offering prayers for the successful completion of the construction, he determined the mosque's Qibla direction as part of the project's preparation.
Dr. H. Arso said he hopes the renovation will proceed smoothly and bring blessings to the surrounding community. According to him, places of worship play a vital role in strengthening religious values while fostering unity and harmony within society.The event concluded with a communal prayer followed by the symbolic cornerstone-laying ceremony conducted by the Babura Sunggal Subdistrict Head, the MUI North Sumatra representative, and the Chairman of the Al-Mukhsinin Mosque Renovation Committee.
