PADANG LAWAS | INDATANEWS.COM ~ Forum Komunikasi Mahasiswa Pemerhati Padang Lawas (FKMPP) has formally declared a vote of no confidence against Putra Mahkota Alam Hasibuan, the Regent of Padang Lawas.
After evaluating his first year in office, the student organization concluded that the regent's leadership has failed to deliver meaningful progress, describing it as a "total failure" that is no longer sustainable.According to FKMPP, public patience has reached its limit. Instead of progress, the region is said to be experiencing a significant decline, which the group attributes to ineffective and incompetent governance.
Crumbling Infrastructure and Stalled Public ServicesFKMPP Chairman Hamdi Hasibuan stated that infrastructure conditions across Padang Lawas have shown little to no improvement. Major roads remain heavily damaged, with some sections resembling mud pits, severely disrupting mobility and hampering economic activity.
The group stressed that deteriorating road conditions are not merely technical shortcomings but reflect a lack of political will to improve residents' quality of life.Concerns were also raised about the health and education sectors
FKMPP argued that public health facilities continue to provide suboptimal services, while educational standards have not significantly improved. Low-income communities, in particular, are bearing the brunt of these shortcomings and are increasingly questioning how the regional budget is being allocated.Fuel Shortages Weigh on Local Economy
Another major point of criticism involves the persistent long queues at fuel stations across the regency. FKMPP views the near-daily fuel shortages as evidence of weak oversight and poor coordination by the regional administration. The fuel crisis has had a direct impact on local economic activities. Small business owners and residents reportedly spend hours waiting to secure fuel, reducing productivity and intensifying financial pressures.
To date, FKMPP claims the regional government has failed to present concrete, sustainable solutions to stabilize fuel distribution in Padang Lawas.Allegations of Budget Mismanagement
The student organization also accused the regional bureaucracy of prioritizing ceremonial events and official travel over essential public needs.According to FKMPP, a significant portion of the regional budget is allocated to non-essential expenditures, while critical sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, and education remain underfunded.
Such spending patterns, the group argues, demonstrate a governance approach that is not fully aligned with the interests of the public.Formal No-Confidence Motion Escalates Political Tension
In a strongly worded statement, Hamdi Hasibuan said FKMPP had observed the administration's performance for a year before reaching its conclusion. He described the regent as incapable and unwilling to address the region's core challenges."If the position serves merely ceremonial purposes without delivering tangible improvements for the people, then resignation or replacement becomes the logical consequence," he said.
FKMPP has called on all elements of society-from village leaders and traditional authorities to the younger generation-to support a leadership change in Padang Lawas. With the formal declaration of a no-confidence vote, political tensions in the regency are expected to intensify. (IDNC)
