ARREST OF BOARDING SCHOOL SUPERVISOR: Jambi Police spokesperson Kombes Pol. Erlan Munaji confirms the arrest of a 37-year-old Islamic boarding school supervisor in Tengah Ilir District, Tebo Regency, suspected of sexually abusing several students.

JAMBI | INDATANEWS.COM Authorities in Tebo Regency have uncovered a serious case of alleged sexual abuse involving minors at an Islamic boarding school (pesantren) in Tengah Ilir District, Jambi. A 37-year-old man identified by the initials AF, who worked as a supervisor and teacher at the institution, has been arrested and is currently under investigation.

The case came to light after a public report was filed at the Tengah Ilir Police Station on Thursday, June 4, 2026, containing allegations of sexual misconduct within the educational facility.

Responding swiftly, local police in coordination with the Tebo Police launched a comprehensive investigation. The suspect, AF, was soon detained for intensive questioning as evidence began to emerge.

Preliminary findings indicate that the alleged abuse may have taken place over an extended period, reportedly from early 2024 until June 3, 2026.

Alleged Manipulation Within a Trusted Educational Setting

Investigators believe the suspect exploited his position of authority as a teacher and dormitory supervisor to gain the trust of students and exert control over them.

Authorities allege that AF used manipulative methods, claiming he could treat psychological trauma through so-called "rituals." These claims are now suspected to have been a pretext for committing sexual abuse.

Police stressed that the case represents a severe abuse of power within a protected educational environment, raising serious concerns about safeguarding mechanisms in boarding schools.

Seven Victims Identified, Suspect Faces Up to 12 Years in Prison

At least seven female victims, aged between 16 and 19, have been identified so far. Investigators continue to interview witnesses to strengthen the case file.

Forensic evidence, including medical reports (visum et repertum) and personal items linked to the victims, has also been secured as part of the ongoing investigation.

AF has been formally named a suspect under Indonesia's Criminal Code (KUHP). If convicted, he could face up to 12 years in prison and fines of up to IDR 5 billion.

Authorities emphasized that the investigation remains a top priority, with full attention given to victim protection.

Jambi Police: Zero Tolerance for Sexual Violence

The Jambi Regional Police reiterated their firm stance against sexual crimes involving children and young people, particularly when committed in trusted institutional settings.

"We will pursue and punish sexual crimes against children without exception," said Jambi Police spokesperson Kombes Pol. Erlan Munaji. He also emphasized that protecting victims remains the primary focus of the ongoing investigation.

The public is urged to report any suspected abuse to prevent similar incidents in the future. Tebo Police have pledged to expand their investigation to uncover the full scope of the case. (IDNC)
