DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - The Deli Serdang Regency Government is accelerating coastal area development efforts through the revitalization of Perumahan Nelayan Asri housing complex in Paluh Sibaji Village, Pantai Labu District. The program represents a commitment by the local administration to provide more decent housing for fishing communities, many of whom still live along riverbanks and vulnerable coastal areas.
Deli Serdang Regent Asri Ludin Tambunan officially inaugurated the revitalized Perumahan Nelayan Asri on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. The Deli Serdang Government expects the program to create a safer, more organized residential environment while improving the quality of life for coastal communities.Built in 2007, Perumahan Nelayan Asri now consists of 60 housing units occupied by fishermen. As part of the revitalization program, the Deli Serdang Government renovated 10 houses to ensure they meet proper residential standards and provide more comfortable living conditions.
In addition to repairing residential buildings, the local government also developed supporting infrastructure, including a 639.2-meter residential road and a 387.1-meter drainage system. These facilities are expected to improve residents' comfort while enhancing environmental conditions within the fishermen's settlement."The houses that we will build in the future are intended for fishermen who are still living along riverbanks and beaches. Residents will not be charged for using these houses. Our goal is to ensure that people can live in a better place and are no longer forced to build homes in vulnerable coastal areas," he said.
According to Asri Ludin, the provision of new housing is part of the government's efforts to sustainably organize and protect coastal areas. Once all relocation houses are completed and occupied by residents, the government will take measures against buildings that remain along riverbanks or coastal zones."We want to preserve coastal areas while providing people with safer and more appropriate housing," he explained.
During the event, the Regent also directly listened to residents' concerns. One of the issues raised by the community was the availability of religious facilities.In response, the Deli Serdang Government plans to convert an unused communal MCK (public sanitation facility) building into a mosque or Musala (prayer room). The initiative is expected to fulfill residents' need for a more suitable place of worship.
A total of 21 houses belonging to residents from several villages received construction and renovation assistance. The program is part of the local government's commitment to improving housing conditions for low-income communities.
The revitalization activities were carried out under the "Bupati Kerja Bertemu Rakyat" (Berjemur) program. The initiative provides various direct public services, including free health check-ups, identity card issuance, tax services (Lapak), and the distribution of agricultural assistance.During the event, the Deli Serdang Government also handed over agricultural equipment and machinery in the form of four-wheel tractors to Brigade Pangan Mitra Tani and UPJA Swadaya. The assistance is expected to increase farmers' productivity and strengthen the agricultural sector in the region.
Asri Ludin also distributed assistance from the National Zakat Agency (Baznas), collected from civil servants' zakat contributions and intended for underprivileged residents. In addition, Bilal Mayit and cemetery workers received identification cards as recognition for their social services.Social assistance in the form of wheelchairs and food packages from SMANSA Kawan Aci Alumni (ASA) was also distributed to residents in need.
The Deli Serdang Government assured residents that all concerns would be followed up and coordinated through relevant agencies. The administration considers public feedback an important part of developing policies that reflect the actual needs of the community.
As a form of appreciation for community service, Deli Serdang Regent Asri Ludin Tambunan awarded Umrah trips to three Bilal Mayit and cemetery workers. The recognition was given to individuals who have carried out social and religious responsibilities in their communities for many years.Through coastal revitalization, the construction of decent housing, and various public service programs, the Deli Serdang Government continues its efforts to implement development initiatives that directly address the needs of residents, particularly fishing families and low-income groups.
