MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM – Poltekkes Kemenkes Medan is intensifying its academic and professional training programs to prepare students for careers in the global healthcare sector, responding to increasing international demand for skilled Indonesian medical workers.
Cecep Triwibowo, S.Kep., M.Sc., Deputy Director I for Academic Affairs at Poltekkes Kemenkes Medan, said the institution is now focusing not only on technical competencies but also on foreign language proficiency, cultural adaptability, and professional ethics aligned with international healthcare standards."Our goal is for Poltekkes Medan graduates to excel not only academically but also professionally, both in Indonesia and abroad. Therefore, we are strengthening English training, simulating overseas hospital work environments, and building partnerships with official recruitment agencies," Cecep said during a meeting with Ipur Work Solution at the Medan campus on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
Enhancing Foreign Language and Certification ProgramsOne of the institution's flagship initiatives is the expansion of foreign language education, particularly in English and German. Poltekkes Kemenkes Medan has established cooperation with Goethe-Institut Jakarta to strengthen German language capabilities among students.
Students are trained not only in everyday communication but also in medical terminology, clinical reporting, and interview simulations conducted in foreign languages to better prepare them for international recruitment processes. In addition, the polytechnic is collaborating with international certification institutions to provide globally recognized competency assessments for countries such as Germany, Japan, and several Middle Eastern nations.

To ensure graduates meet international workforce demands, Poltekkes Medan continues to strengthen partnerships with hospitals, healthcare institutions, and overseas manpower placement agencies.
Internship and field practice programs are now designed to expose students to international healthcare systems and workplace cultures."Through these collaborations, students gain direct experience with global healthcare standards. This is essential so they can adapt more quickly and minimize culture shock when working abroad," Cecep explained.
Students Welcome International Career OpportunitiesThe initiative has received positive responses from students, particularly those interested in pursuing international careers in healthcare.
Maryam, a Nursing student at Poltekkes Kemenkes Medan, said the new language and overseas preparation programs have increased students' confidence in competing globally."Previously, our focus was mainly on internships in local hospitals. Now, there is specialized training for working overseas, and it gives us greater confidence about our future careers," she said.
Poltekkes Kemenkes Medan is targeting a 20 percent increase in the placement of graduates in international healthcare positions over the next two years. The effort aligns with the Indonesian government's initiative to deploy skilled healthcare workers abroad through legal and protected employment channels."With stronger preparation, we hope to produce healthcare professionals who are not only competent but also globally competitive and capable of bringing pride to Indonesia," Cecep concluded.
