Torgamba Police Take Stand Against Palm Oil Theft and Drug Abuse

JOINT SECURITY MEETING IN SEI MERANTI: Police, TNI, village officials, and residents gather at the Sei Meranti Village Hall, Torgamba, to discuss palm oil theft and drug prevention strategies.

LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The Torgamba Police Department, together with village officials, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and local residents, held a coordination meeting at the Sei Meranti Village Hall, Torgamba District, Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency. The meeting focused on addressing rising cases of palm fruit theft and the growing concern over drug abuse in the area.

The session was led by Torgamba Police Chief AKP Sunipan Gurusinga, who emphasized that maintaining public security is a shared responsibility between law enforcement and the community.

"We cannot do this alone. Village security is a collective responsibility," he stated.

AKP Sunipan Gurusinga urged residents to take an active role in safeguarding public order and supporting police efforts in crime prevention. He also encouraged the reactivation of Siskamling, a neighborhood-based security system designed to improve vigilance at the community level.

He reminded residents to immediately report any criminal activity through the national police emergency line 110 for faster response and intervention.

On the issue of narcotics, he acknowledged limitations in personnel but stressed that public information plays a crucial role in enforcement.

"Even the smallest information from the public can help us take action," he said.

He further called on village authorities to map illegal palm oil collection points and promised educational outreach programs for local business actors to ensure legal compliance.

During the discussion session, residents expressed concern over the increasing number of palm fruit theft cases. Misno, a resident of Bagan Toreh hamlet, urged authorities to take firm and consistent action against offenders.

The Chairperson of the Village Consultative Body (BPD), Evalentina Nababan, warned about the dangers of drug abuse, particularly its impact on the younger generation.

"Our youth must not fall victim to drugs," she stressed.

Meanwhile, Village Secretary Nelson Tampubolon highlighted the existence of illegal palm oil collection points, locally referred to as "ram-ram liar," which are believed to be linked to theft activities.

The meeting concluded at 12:30 p.m. local time with a joint agreement to strengthen cooperation between law enforcement and the community in tackling palm oil theft and drug-related crimes. (IDNC)
