LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM - Torgamba Sector Police arrested a 41-year-old man identified by the initials Hermansyah, alias Rolet, on Friday, 16 October 2026, at approximately 9.30 am local time on suspicion of a drug-related offence involving crystal methamphetamine. The arrest took place in the Afdeling II area of the Torgamba Plantation, in Torgamba Village, Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency. Officers seized 21 small plastic sachets containing a substance suspected to be crystal methamphetamine, with a gross weight of 5.07 grammes, alongside cash amounting to IDR 267,000 and a mobile phone.

The investigation began after members of the public reported suspected drug consumption or trafficking in one of the blocks of the oil palm plantation in Afdeling II, within the Torgamba Plantation. Following receipt of the information, Torgamba Sector Police launched an investigation and subsequently arrested the man. He resides in the Emplasment hamlet of Torgamba Village.

Officers then escorted the suspect and all seized items to Torgamba Police Station, where further questioning and legal procedures were initiated. Investigators also began preparing the necessary case documents before the further handling of the case was due to be transferred to the Narcotics Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department.

The case highlights the importance of public participation in alerting law enforcement agencies to locations where drugs may be consumed or illegally traded. At the same time, the investigation must be based on reliable evidence and conducted in accordance with applicable legal procedures.

Investigation Launched Following Public Tip-Off

Information from local residents provided the starting point for uncovering the suspected drug offence. According to the reports received, suspicious activities had been observed in one of the blocks of the oil palm plantation in Afdeling II, within the Torgamba Plantation. The location was suspected of having been repeatedly used for drug consumption.

Torgamba Sector Police Chief AKP Sunipan Gurusinga, S.H., responded to the information by instructing the head of criminal investigations, IPTU Rajo Irawan Hamonangan, S.H., M.H., to work with officers from the operational investigation unit to inspect the reported area.

The team subsequently travelled to the plantation to follow up on the tip-off. During the operation, officers arrested Hermansyah, alias Rolet, a 41-year-old self-employed man who lives in Torgamba Village.

The operation formed part of the police response to public reports of suspected drug-related activities within the jurisdiction of Torgamba Police Station. However, whether the man was actually involved in a drug-related offence must be established through the due process of law.

Police Seize 21 Plastic Sachets and Cash

During an initial search, officers seized a medium-sized plastic bag containing 21 small, transparent plastic sachets filled with a powdered substance suspected to be crystal methamphetamine. The total gross weight of the suspected drugs was recorded at 5.07 grammes.

In addition to the suspected narcotics, officers seized cash totalling IDR 267,000. According to the police report, the money was suspected to have originated from drug sales. However, the source of the cash and any possible connection with the suspected offence must be established through further investigation and supporting evidence.

Officers also seized a purple Vivo Y04S mobile phone. The man and all the seized items were then taken to Torgamba Police Station to support further questioning and investigative procedures.

The seizure of these items forms part of the evidence-gathering process intended to establish the details of the suspected offence. Before drawing conclusions about the suspect's role, investigators must examine the connection between each piece of evidence and the case under investigation.

Investigation Continues as Police Urge Public Cooperation

Following the arrest and seizure of the suspected evidence, Torgamba Sector Police began preparing the next procedural steps. These include completing the police report, questioning the suspect, finalising the investigation documents and transferring the further handling of the case to the Narcotics Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department.

The transfer is intended to enable a more in-depth examination of the case within the relevant areas of responsibility and in accordance with established investigative procedures. Authorities must continue analysing the available evidence to establish the suspected offence, determine the origin of the suspected narcotics and identify any possible involvement of other individuals, should supporting evidence emerge.

The case also underscores the important role the public plays in identifying suspected drug-related activities. Information provided by residents can serve as a basis for investigations and help authorities take appropriate action in accordance with the law.

Members of the public are urged to report suspicious activities through official police channels and refrain from taking the law into their own hands. Such cooperation can help authorities identify potential threats to public safety and order, particularly those associated with suspected drug consumption and illegal drug trafficking.

At the same time, the proceedings must uphold the presumption of innocence. Hermansyah, alias Rolet, and his suspected involvement in a drug-related offence must be dealt with through the investigation, presentation of evidence and judicial process in accordance with applicable law.

Torgamba Sector Police will now complete the investigation documents and transfer the case to the Narcotics Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department for further handling. The operation is intended to support ongoing efforts to combat the dangers posed by narcotics and maintain public safety and order in Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency. (IDNC)
