Barelang Police Crack Down on Illegal Street Racing and “Brong” Exhausts, 41 Vehicles Sanctioned

ENFORCEMENT AGAINST “BRONG” EXHAUSTS: Officers from Polresta Barelang and subordinate precincts conduct joint patrols and traffic inspections targeting vehicles with illegal exhaust modifications in Batam.

BATAM | INDATANEWS.COM ~ The Barelang Police (Polresta Barelang), in coordination with its subordinate precincts, carried out a large-scale joint operation targeting illegal street racing and vehicles equipped with non-standard or non-SNI-compliant "brong" exhaust systems. The enforcement action took place on Saturday, April 18, 2026, within the Barelang jurisdiction.

The operation was launched in response to numerous public complaints and forms part of ongoing efforts to maintain road safety, order, and smooth traffic flow (Kamseltibcarlantas).

The enforcement activity began with a formal operational briefing led by the Head of the Traffic Unit (Kasat Lantas) of Polresta Barelang, Kompol Afiditya Arief Wibowo, alongside the Head of Operations, AKP Arbi Guna Bimantara, and the Chief of Batam Kota Police Sector, AKP Benny Syahrizal.

This briefing marked the commencement of a coordinated large-scale patrol targeting known hotspots of illegal street racing across the Barelang jurisdiction.

Following the briefing, officers were deployed to conduct mobile patrols under a "hunting system," focusing on strategic locations frequently used by racing groups.

ETLE Mobile System Enforces Traffic Law Compliance

The operation was supported by the Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) Mobile system, led by IPDA Muhammad Zikri, Deputy Head of Vehicle Registration (Regident).

In addition to enforcement actions, officers also provided public education on the importance of using standard-compliant exhaust systems and carrying complete vehicle documentation. Authorities emphasized that the initiative aims to reduce traffic violations that could endanger other road users.

A total of 41 motorcycles and one car were cited for violations involving non-standard exhaust modifications.

The breakdown includes 33 vehicles handled by joint specialist units, 5 vehicles by Lubuk Baja Police, and 3 vehicles by Batu Ampar Police. No violations were recorded in other police sectors during the operation.

Kasat Lantas Polresta Barelang, Kompol Afiditya Arief Wibowo, reaffirmed the police commitment to maintaining traffic safety and public order.

"We will continue conducting these operations to ensure a strong presence in the field and take firm action against illegal street racing and disruptive 'brong' exhaust usage," he stated.
