PATROL AGAINST ILLEGAL STREET RACING: Barelang Traffic Police officers conduct patrols on Friday, August 14, 2026, to prevent illegal street racing and inspect motorcycles fitted with technically non-compliant exhaust systems within the jurisdiction of Polresta Barelang. The operation identified 40 motorcycles with loud, non-compliant exhaust systems.

BATAM | INDATANEWS.COM - The Traffic Unit of the Barelang City Police (Polresta Barelang) conducted patrols within its jurisdiction on Friday, August 14, 2026, to prevent illegal street racing while inspecting motorcycles fitted with exhaust systems that did not comply with technical regulations. During the operation, which ran from 11:00 p.m. local time until 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, officers identified 40 motorcycles equipped with non-compliant exhaust systems.

The operation was carried out as both a preventive and repressive measure by Polresta Barelang to maintain security, traffic safety, public order and smooth traffic flow, known as Kamseltibcarlantas. The patrol also responded to complaints from residents concerning illegal street racing and excessively loud exhaust systems, which cause significant noise and disturb the peace of people living in the surrounding areas.

The operation began with a briefing led by the Head of the Barelang Police Traffic Unit, Kompol Afiditya Arief Wibowo. The personnel then conducted patrols under the direction of the Deputy Head of the Barelang Police Traffic Unit, Iptu Yudhi Patra, S.H. Officers inspected several areas considered potential locations for illegal street racing and other traffic violations.

Patrols Target Illegal Racing and Loud Exhausts

During the operation, Barelang Traffic Police officers carried out targeted inspections at several locations within their jurisdiction. Particular attention was given to motorcycle riders using technically non-compliant exhaust systems, as well as motorists suspected of intending to participate in illegal street racing.

The patrols were not focused solely on taking enforcement action. Officers also monitored traffic conditions and took the necessary measures whenever violations were detected. The police presence at several vulnerable locations was intended to prevent activities that could disrupt public order while reducing the risk of traffic accidents.

Polresta Barelang adopted a preventive, educational and repressive approach during the operation. Officers provided motorists with information about the importance of using vehicles that meet technical requirements and complying with all applicable traffic regulations.

Mobile ETLE Used to Enforce Traffic Rules

In addition to direct enforcement measures in the field, Barelang Traffic Police officers also used Mobile Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) as part of traffic law enforcement efforts. The use of the mobile ETLE system is part of the police's efforts to make traffic monitoring measurable and accountable while encouraging motorists to become more disciplined.

Officers also educated riders whose motorcycles were fitted with technically non-compliant exhaust systems. Police urged the riders to replace the exhaust systems with components that comply with applicable regulations so as to prevent excessive noise and avoid disturbing other road users and residents in the surrounding areas.

In addition to addressing exhaust-system violations, officers reminded motorists to always carry and have their required vehicle and registration documents readily available. Police also urged the public to comply with all traffic regulations, use vehicles in accordance with applicable requirements and always prioritize safety while driving.

These measures are part of the police's efforts to emphasize to the public that compliance with traffic regulations is not merely about avoiding sanctions. Following the rules is also an important factor in maintaining safe traffic flow and preventing road accidents.

Forty Motorcycles Found With Non-Compliant Exhausts

As part of the operation against illegal street racing and the inspection of technically non-compliant exhaust systems, Barelang Traffic Police officers identified a total of 40 motorcycles fitted with exhaust systems that did not meet technical requirements.

Police subsequently took the necessary measures and provided guidance to the affected riders. Authorities hope the enforcement action will have a deterrent effect while strengthening public awareness about the importance of avoiding vehicle components that do not comply with applicable regulations.

The inspections also demonstrated Polresta Barelang's response to complaints and reports from residents regarding excessively loud exhaust systems and the threat posed by illegal street racing. According to police, the presence of officers in the field is essential to preventing violations at an early stage and maintaining safe, orderly and stable traffic conditions.

Polresta Barelang emphasized that it would continue to strengthen its preventive, educational and repressive measures to maintain Kamseltibcarlantas. The measures are not solely directed at traffic violators but are also intended to strengthen public awareness and encourage the community to build a culture of lawful and safe road use.

Police appealed to the public not to use vehicles that fail to meet technical requirements. At the same time, residents were urged not to engage in illegal street racing, as such activities can endanger the safety of riders, other road users and people in the surrounding areas.

Polresta Barelang also called on the public to actively participate in maintaining security and public order and to report any disturbances to public safety or other situations requiring police intervention. Residents can contact the police emergency number 110 as a service and rapid communication channel with the police.

Through continuous patrols and inspections, Polresta Barelang hopes to further curb the risk of illegal street racing and violations involving technically non-compliant exhaust systems. At the same time, the operation is expected to strengthen public awareness of traffic safety and compliance with traffic regulations.

The entire operation to prevent illegal street racing and inspect technically non-compliant exhaust systems within the jurisdiction of Polresta Barelang proceeded safely, smoothly and under control. The presence of officers in the field is part of the police's commitment to providing the public with a sense of security while ensuring that roads can be used safely, comfortably and properly by the community.
